Mike Huckabee Calls Out Natalie Portman for Premarital Pregnancy

by at . Comments

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has made it clear: he has an issue with unmarried, unashamed, wealthy women who tell the world about their pregnancy.

It's clear to whom he's referring, right? Incredibly, no.

The likely 2012 Presidential candidate went on Michael Medved's radio show Monday and somehow called out Natalie Portman, not a certain daughter of a certain reality star who has raked in seven figures by posing on tabloid covers with her child.

2011 Oscar Winner

"People see a Natalie Portman who boasts*, 'We're not married but we're having these children and they're doing just fine," Huckabee said. "I think it gives a distorted image. It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children."

(*Note: Portman has never said this. She has, however, had the gall to appear on stage with a baby bump and tell the world she loves her fiancee, Benjamin Millepied.)

Referring to Portman's pregnancy as "troubling," Huckabee added:

"Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing."

We agree 1,000% with that statement. We wonder how Huckabee's fellow Republican, Sarah Palin, feels about this issue.

In 2007, meanwhile, Huckabee said the following about a pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears: "I hope it is not an encouragement to other 16-year-olds who think that is the best course of action... I'm not going to condemn her... There'll be plenty of people in line to and I always look for the shortest lines. I just hope that she will make another right decision, and that's to give that child all the love and kindness and care that she can."

Why the more pointed words for Portman? Might they be related to a Presidential run? You tell us.

I did lose some respect for Natalie on this... Apparently, this Benjamin Millipede (sp?) is quite the sexy, talented male ballet dancer/womanizer, as well-known in the industry. I can understand why young Natalie fell for him hard and got seduced, bigtime! This happens to young women everyday, everywhere. She's just at that age and actually seems very sincere and naive. That said, she shouldn't have let things slip and it is NOT glamorous or virtuous. I also detected a sad look in her post-Oscar interview when asked what her future dreams entailed... OBVIOUSLY, every young pregnant woman would have liked and dreamed of having the proposal, marriage, and real commitment BEFORE taking on such an important and all-consuming "role."

Apparently Millepied was living with another woman when he began hooking up with Portman. Ah. Modern love... Doesn't bode well for Portmen. But then why should she expect her relationship to last? It's all good, right? As long as he feels good about himself when he dumps her for someone new in a few years.

@gary Okay, my bad. Still, her choice is an immoral one: she wilfully chose to sleep with a man she was not married to and is still not married to him even at this point in her pregnancy. "Facts"...?? LOL! We're hardly talking foreign policy here. What "facts" have you included in your "arguments"? All this boils down to is you're a moral relativist and I believe in absolute good. At the end of the day, absolute good wins over moral relativism. The proof is in the pudding. The consequences of moral relativism are all around us.

@Sharon: I know you don't like citing facts in your arguments, but please do note: Benajmin Millepied has never been married.

@Sharon: Immorality is immorality, huh? There can never be a distinction? You must never have gone over the speed limit and endangered other cars then, huh? Never left a tip for a waiter uner 15%? If so, who knows what could happen in 10 years... you might be the next Charlie Sheen. Careful.

@ LoLo and Gary Immorality is immorality. You're dickering over degree. The destruction of marriage in this country has led to an infinite number of social ills that cost this country billions of dollars every year. The destruction of the family as the primary unit of society is proving to be a terrible thing for the nation and for individuals themselves. If Natalie Portman chooses to live like this and to live like this publicly, then she is subject to criticism for her choices, just as Palin is subject to criticism for hers.

@Sharon: Let's pretend Portman was NOT engaged. Let's say she and Millpeid simply decided marriage wasn't for them. You seem to imply they'd be acting in some awful, immoral way... but why? who's to say marriage is for everyone?
as HH stated, half the marriages in this country fall apart. How is it Portman's responsibility to do anything except what she deems is best for herself and her family? It would be one thing if she pulled a Bristol and appeared on various tabloids with her baby, clearly profiting from the arrangement and sending a message that teen pregnancy can make you famous ... but you'd be hard-pressed to find a more private celebrity on the planet than Natalie Portman.

why is every argument about race?? Matt Damon doesn't think Obama's doing a good job, it's race?!? Not everything is about racial issues. Natalie having a baby out of wedlock has nothing to do with her being white. My problem with her is when she started the relationship with this man he was still married, that is where the problem is and comparing Sheen to her is pure stupidity.

@Sharon: Please explain how Portman is "parading" her pregnancy around. Because she simply is expecting and showing up at public events? IF America's youth believes that marriage is "meaningless," know what they are basing that on? The 50% divorce rate in this country. That has been a consistent figure long before reality TV. You wanna somehow blame entertainment, maybe cite the numerous TV shows that do make marriage into nothing more than dress-shopping and cake-decorating.
But it's legitimately insane to think there's a single teenager out there who saw Portman accepting her Oscar - the only "parading" she's done - and then thought: ""Huh, I guess marriage has no meaning."

@frank So these wealthy women go into poverty stricken areas and rather than help the poor mothers KEEP their babies, they kick the mothers to the curb and take their babies. Nice. Sorry, but I'm tired of these white American women contracepting themselves into infertility and then running off to a third world country and playing Lady Bountiful by taking the children and leaving the poor women behind. The adoption industry is as dehumanizing and immoral as it gets. It's baby stealing and/or baby buying in the overwhelming majority of cases.
