Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor was laid to rest Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif., in a private funeral attended by friends and family.

The ceremony began 15 minutes after schedule, but it wasn't because people kept filing in late. It did so following the strict instructions the late actress left.

"She even wanted to be late for her own funeral," a family rep said in a statement.

After the one-hour, multi-denominational service, Taylor's casket was interred in The Great Mausoleum, also the resting place of her friend Michael Jackson.

Actor Colin Farrell, Taylor's son Michael Wilding, her daughter Liza Burton Tivey and her grandson Tarquin Wilding all read selected works at the service.

Her grandson Rhys Tivey performed a trumpet solo of "Amazing Grace."

Taylor passed away Wednesday at age 79 after battling heart problems for the past few months. She is survived by four children and 10 grandchildren.

Way to go Elizabeth!!
Elizabeth had 9 Lives, and lived every one of them according to her own standards. If Elizabeth was late to her own funeral, I can easily believe that those in attendance felt that she was very well worth waiting for. In the last 20 years of her life, Dame Elizabeth
allowed herself to be a vessel to raise funds and awareness for a very noble cause. With all the headlines that followed her young life, in the end it was no longer about her, but that she made herself available to help others
