What that judge said to her was totally gratuitous. Just treat her like everyone else. No need to single her out at an *arraignment* for some kind of sentencing phrase style speech. Also, the judge sounds pretty inarticulate. Now, while LL is probably guilty, it doesn't help that these idiotic, envious people, from the store down to the judge will have adjudicated her. It's a felony because of the amount of the item taken, not because it was some kind of aggravated incident. Jail time would be funny, but probably way too harsh.

She messed up and messed up badly (real badly) but what if people were watching you 24/7 and there are all kinds of freaks just waiting for her to trip. That is not a great life they lead.
