Lara Logan, CBS News Correspondent, Sexually Assaulted in Egypt

by at . Comments

This is simply horrific:

CBS News reports that Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Lara Logan, covering the political uprising in Egypt, was attacked on Friday, moments after President Hosni Mubarak resigned his post.

According to the network, Logan was "separated from her crew" during the frenzy of Mubarak's resignation and "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."

Reunited with her team, Logan returned to her hotel and was flown to the United States Saturday morning. She is in the hospital recovering.

While not nearly as serious, Anderson Cooper was also attacked during his coverage of the upheaval in Egypt earlier this month. A week prior to her assault, Logan and her crew were detained today by police outside the Israeli embassy.

Our thoughts and prayer are with Lara Logan.

Why don't somebody just nuke Mecca? then they will have nothing to pray to 5 times a day but a hole in the ground. and nothing they do in retaliation will be a bigger blow then destroying the center of their religion. they coould dirty bombs cities or biological warfare, but removing the heart of theri religion will fuck em up good forever.

As travelled some times in Egypt with my ex girlfriend im sad to say that aint a bit suprised this happens. I learned quite fast that I couldnt leave her a minut alone as the men had no respect at all for a Swedish blond woman. To be honest how much help do you have from your bodyguards in a 10000 big mob drifting here and there, not much i would think.I really hope she can recover from it whitout to much physical and emotional
dmg.

TRUTH OR LIES? -IT MAKES - AN ISSUE OF PUBLIC ANGER MANIPULATION. WE ARE DEALING WITH ISSUES LIKE LATENT ANGER FROM 9-11; INEPT SECURITY ABROAD FROM THE LIKES OF COMPANIES SUCH AS BLACKWATER AND G4SS(WACKENHUT), AND ISSUES SUCH AS WOMEN'S RIGHTS AND RAPE CRIMES; THAT MAKES A POTENT AND VISCERAL BACKLASH FROM FOLKS----BUT-LIKE A RECENT POSTING WHICH EXCORIATES THE LACK OF CARING ON MANY SOCIAL ISSUES, AND LEVELS-----WHAT ABOUT MEN CAUGHT UP IN INVESTIGATIONS SUCH AS RAPE CASES WHERE THE WOMEN LIE AND DAMAGE THE REPUTATIONS OF MEN? MANY ISSUES TO DEAL WITH, NO MONEY TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUES-AND THE ISSUES ARE SITTING RIGHT HERE IN THE U.S. OF A.! WE FACE OUTRIGHT REVOLUTION AND RIOTS OVER SOME OF THESE ISSUES-SOON. SEE IF YOU CAN CONNECT THE DOTS ON THE GUNS YOU HAVEN'T GOT, AND THE SECURITY AND GUARDS YOU LAUGHED AT ( INCLUDING MALL GUARDS!)-THAT AREN'T THERE WHEN YOUR WIFE OR DAUGHTER GETS RAPED HERE, IN DEMOCRACY LAND! YOU ARROGANT, CHEAP, AND FOOLISH OF SOCIETY-LIVE AND LEARN....!

She just needed to learn her place. I'm sure if she ever goes back there she'll be much more humble, dress conservatively, and not get all mouthy when she addresses a man.

We do not learn from the history of mankind.
Democracy plus Islamic fundamentalism = poverty, humiliation of women, homophobia, jihad, execution with stones, the right and duty to kill Christians, Jews and others.

This is Muslim style democracy. What did you think? That suddenly these violent bigots will turn into polite Scandinavians? As none of the western media corporation though to stress the fact that although Egypt is not Islamic as Iran, woman just can't walk alone in the streets. Rape and sexual assault are among the most common crimes in Egypt and statistics show that each Egyptian woman was attacked at least once in her life by a stranger.

@ Male Chauvinist I tend to agree with you regarding women not going into certain areas where their sex makes them vunerable. I'm a woman and know first hand what it feels like to be in a culture that subjects you to second-class status due to gender; trust me guys, it's a very scary thing. I'm sure Ms. Logan knew certain threats existed, but the Western culture makes us feel immune to potential harm. It is important that women research and respect the countries they visit, especially Muslim countries. I don't excuse the brutes that raped this woman and I hope they will be duly punished. Rape is an act of violence and leaves permanant psychological scars. I wish someone had given her a scarf to cover her hair, maybe an abaya.....anything to be less conspicuous. Sometimes the things we women must do for job safety may appear archaic by western belief, but the cultural climate can't be ignored.
