Did Lady Gaga Rip Off Madonna?

by at . Comments

Notice a similarity between Lady Gaga's new single "Born This Way" and Madonna's '80s classic "Express Yourself"? Well, the latter apparently has.

First, Madge's brother, Christopher Ciccone, went on record saying, "All I can say is 'What the f**k!' when asked to comment on Lady Gaga's new song.

"It sounds just like 'Express Yourself' ... I can't believe it to tell you the truth."

Madonna herself hasn't commented, but her YouTube page was updated today with, wouldn't you know it, a live performance of "Express Yourself."

The pop stars have never feuded. Contrarily, in fact. Gaga has called Madonna a huge influence and the two even did an SNL sketch together in 2009.

Listen to "Express Yourself" and see if you think "Born This Way" is a rip-off:

It's a strange situation. Having been a teen when Madonna came out, I see the resemblence all the time. The first time I saw and heard Gaga, Madonna was who she reminded me of. But most kids today won't know that. Plus Madonna ripped off the verse from the song Respect Yourself. In that song they sing "respect yourself" and right after the singers say "hey hey". So it's done often, but for Gaga to claim herself as original or whatever is a crock.

Ofcourse. Gaga fans are hypocrits! Even though i am a big fan of gaga, and of course Britney ( Or else i wouldn't have anything to say here :P) The song is RLY good, but when britney does writes two lines that look like something, someone else did, it's the biggest ripoff ever. But when Gaga copy/pastes Express yourself, it's just inspirational? Just wanted to point that out :) But, rly great lyrics! luv them!

i heard her say in an interview that she had this song done in 10 mins. no offense yall it sounds and seems like she did the song in 10 mins. just sayin

is it a rip off? yes it is. but to me that really doesnt bother me that the tunes are alike...to me its the song in general. Lady Gaga has had waaaaayyyy better songs than this i get her message after listening to it for awhile but i definitely think this song could have been waayyy better. i mean she did do this a lot of promoting and to me the song didnt live up to the hype. i love lady gaga but this song is not the best song to debut on

i agree its nothing personal...after all history always tends to repeat itself. we have an icon break standards in the 80s and 90s and now we have another future icon breaking new standards for great music

I like Madonna and Lady Gaga both. thats the music industry business for you. its not called showFRIENDS its showbusiness. like the saying goes out with the old and in with the new.

Madonna Quotes

Leave her alone. She’s gonna be 16 soon and then 17 and then 18, and then she might show her knees and then what's gonna happen?

My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce. I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study.
