Keith Olbermann: Fired By MSNBC!

by at . Comments

Keith Olbermann, one of the best known cable news personalities on either side of the political spectrum, was abruptly fired yesterday by MSNBC.

Olbermann, in the middle of a four-year $30 million deal set to last until 2012, announced on last night's edition of Countdown that it was his last.

The dismissal is said to be at least indirectly related to Comcast's acquiring of NBC and the parent company's distaste for his defiance and attitude.

Here's Olberman signing off for the final time last night ...

Sources said network brass basically paid the pundit to scram by working out an agreement in which he would get lost and continue to be paid.

He will have to stay off the air at least until fall as a result.

MSNBC issued a vague, unemotional statement saying it ended its contract with Olbermann, who hosted the top rated show on the network.

The statement read in part, "MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors." Nice.

Olbermann was suspended briefly a few months ago in light of some political donations the host made, but no one saw this swift exit coming.

Executives have said tensions between Olbermann and the network, which were palpable to begin with, have been running high since then.

Neither side has offered a formal explanation, but the network said 10 p.m. host Lawrence O'Donnell would move into Keith's slot Monday.

What do you think of the move? Is MSNBC crazy for bidding happy trails to such a high-rated host? Good riddance or good luck to Keith?

Boo boo msnbc. Keith is to good for u fools anyways. Cya soon keithy O!! Ur great!

After working long hours as a Physican. I looked forward to coming home @ 8 to watch KO. I am in total awe by the firing. Hope to see him soon. Goodbye Msnbc.

Bye-bye MSNBC!!! Universal NBC or Comcast-who ever is responsible for the ignorant move. I don't know what going on with that network, I did hear their ratings had dropped. I believe they will continue to drop to. I, too am not worried about Keith. He will continue to speak, and succeed. He a bright, intellegant and honest man. Can't wait to see u again Keith.

As a college Law student, we all would get together every night and watch u faithfully! I adore Keith for his intellegent, out spoken mind. He was also caring and giving. I love how he exposed FAUX news too. He was the real deal!!! I believe there something better for him. As for MSNBC, yes, we all will no longer tune in, even though I love Rachel, and a few others. But I'm livid at that network and will never turn to that station ever again.

MSNBC are total morons! Case closed. Ridding to that dumb ass network. Watch, Racheal and Chris will probally be next in line. I can't wait til that network is obselete. Some dumb ass doesn't know what the heck they are are doing. And its sad. I can't wait for Keiths big comeback, and we all know that will happen.

I watched K.O. for his ability to expose fox news. I watched fox news for its entertainment value as none of their host are true conservatives (IMO).The entertainment value came in the form of glenn beck's comdey show with the chalk board(its like watching an oliver stone movie with all its conspriacy(sp).) Although I did not agree with all of Kieth Obermann's opinions, I did admire his advocacy and his activism ( giving to charity).Iam an independant in that I am conservative about somethings and liberal about others so I cannot subscribe to one label or another. I dont feel bad for keith at all ..he will continue.

MSNBC u messed up real bad by firing Olbermann, that's for damn sure. I know numerous people who have tuned ur network right out!! Rightfully, so. What the hell were u guys thinking? Dumb. Dumb. Keith was the best thing on TV/Cable. The man spoke the truth, had compassion, etc..etc. He was one of the top rated shows on!! Well, like so many have said, its ur big, BIG LOSS. I know a cable network that will be loosing ratings, bigtime!!

Keith, we love you!! U were def the best on cable network TV. What a stupid move on their part. We will be following you via twitter. Hope to see you soon. Shame...shame, on MSNBC! What morons!

Shame on Msnbc, Keith made MSNBC!! I absolutely love Keith, he told it how it was...the Truth! I will no longer be tuning into that network. Their loss, big time!! What's next Rachel? Chris? Geese.

Isn't there enough hate in the world without televising people like him anyway. In his world any good thing seems to be evil and any bad thing is good. He is just an ego maniac who needs to be in a headline somewhere and doesn't care whom he hurts to get there. The network who puts him on is a bad as he is and shouldn't be watched. I heard about him and watched him about 2 minute's once before seeing how vile he was, good ridence to people like him. There is a difference between researching and telling the truth and making up stuff just to be hateful with your opinions while ignoring facts which should be told on shows like his. RB
