Keith Olbermann: Fired By MSNBC!

by at . Comments

Keith Olbermann, one of the best known cable news personalities on either side of the political spectrum, was abruptly fired yesterday by MSNBC.

Olbermann, in the middle of a four-year $30 million deal set to last until 2012, announced on last night's edition of Countdown that it was his last.

The dismissal is said to be at least indirectly related to Comcast's acquiring of NBC and the parent company's distaste for his defiance and attitude.

Here's Olberman signing off for the final time last night ...

Sources said network brass basically paid the pundit to scram by working out an agreement in which he would get lost and continue to be paid.

He will have to stay off the air at least until fall as a result.

MSNBC issued a vague, unemotional statement saying it ended its contract with Olbermann, who hosted the top rated show on the network.

The statement read in part, "MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors." Nice.

Olbermann was suspended briefly a few months ago in light of some political donations the host made, but no one saw this swift exit coming.

Executives have said tensions between Olbermann and the network, which were palpable to begin with, have been running high since then.

Neither side has offered a formal explanation, but the network said 10 p.m. host Lawrence O'Donnell would move into Keith's slot Monday.

What do you think of the move? Is MSNBC crazy for bidding happy trails to such a high-rated host? Good riddance or good luck to Keith?

I haven't watched the stupid network since Keith left, and I do not plan on watching it again. Their ratings will plunge to nothing. MSNbc was Keith, and without him they are nothing. Ziltch!! Nada!! So long msnbc. Big mistake and ur great loss!!!!! Capeche

I love U Keith!! Ur the best. I can't wait to see you soon. And so long MSNBC, you lost, yet another faithful viewer (s).

Big mistake Comcast! So glad I dropped my service with you, and will no longer continue watching ur network. He was the only honest face!!!! MSNBC sucks! Keith I know you'll do just fine, your to smart for their asses anyways. I wish Keith the best...the best is yet to come.

I'm curing my addiction to MSNBC now that Keith is gone. Maddow needs to be next...she's a mess! Chris Matthews is so full of himself (and his knowledge of history) that there really is no point in inviting guests,,,he just loves the sound of his own voice and ventures nowhere outside of his studio. Ratigan is another one who rattles on in his monotone rant that few of us care about or, for that matter, even understand. Your continued Weekends of LOCKUP and Predator reruns are pathetic. You've lost me MSNBC!!

Olberman is a psycho and those who faithfully watched him were lunatics. There's a reason why MSNBC consistently does so poorly in the ratings, and Comcsat is working to fix it. Now, if they can only get rid of Olberman's evil twin, Maddow, I might consider giving the network a second chance! I can't believe Olberman lasted as long as he did.

This is a big step in the right direction. Now, if they just wise up and dump Maddow, they'll be on the road to recovery.

Keith was to smart and to good for MSNBC. He will do just fine without them. And so will I , I will no longer give that network the time of day.

Can't say I will miss him, rarely watched him. His retoric was not only biased but venomous. I watch Fox News also, and though their bias is readily obvious, I don't hear the venomous and bitter ranting. I don't listen to Russ, or watch Glen either because of hateful propaganda, and like Keith do not consider them newsmen or journalists. Anyone that watched him for their news might as well be in China, as it was totally one-sided. I would hope to find a more centerist news channel, because I would certainly like a factual based informational source. AGGGGHH Rachel is needs to go also; I fail to see her newsworthiness. Alec Baldwin needs to stick with comedy.
