George W. Bush Still Hurt By Kanye West Comments, Accusations of Racism

by at . Comments

President George W. Bush endured a lot of criticism in his day, but he says that when he heard Kanye West accusing him of not caring about black people after Hurricane Katrina, "it was one of the most disgusting moments in my Presidency.”

It was a pretty harsh line. True? That's up for debate.

Bush taped an interview with Matt Lauer that will air on a special prime time Matt Lauer Reports on NBC November 8. It’s to promote his new book, Decision Points.

We're curious to see what his ghostwriter has to say.

The subjects of the interview were wide-ranging, but the former President was very passionate on the subject of West’s criticism of the way Bush handled the Katrina aftermath, according to quotes from the interview NBC released.

“He called me a racist,” Bush tells Lauer. “I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now. It’s one thing to say, ‘I don’t appreciate the way he’s handled his business.’ It’s another thing to say, ‘This man’s a racist.’ I resent it, it’s not true.”

Kanye made news for being outspoken long before he hijacked Taylor Swift's speech at the MTV VMAs. But who knew that one line ate at the Prez so badly.

Lauer quotes from Bush’s book: “Five years later I can barely write those words without feeling disgust.” Lauer adds, “You go on: ‘I faced a lot of criticism as President. I didn’t like hearing people claim that I lied about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction or cut taxes to benefit the rich. But the suggestion that I'm racist because of the response to Katrina represented an all-time low.’

Bush responds: “Yeah. I still feel that way as you read those words. I felt ‘em when I heard ‘em, felt ‘em when I wrote ‘em and I felt ‘em when I’m listening to ‘em.

Lauer: “You told Laura at the time it was the worst moment of your Presidency?”

Bush: “Yes. My record was strong I felt when it came to race relations and giving people a chance. And it was a disgusting moment.”

Lauer: “I wonder if some people are going to read that, now that you’ve written it, and they might give you some heat for that. And the reason is this — “

Bush: [interrupting] “Don’t care.”

Lauer: “Well, here’s the reason. You’re not saying that the worst moment in your Presidency was the misery in Louisiana. It was when someone insulted you because of that.”

Bush: “No, and I also make it very clear that the misery in Louisiana affected me deeply as well. There’s a lot of tough moments in the book. And it was a disgusting moment, pure and simple.”

i know sometimes we think some of black people are lazy but i bet black people think white people are lazy to

I have to agree with randyjacksonsbutt i mean i am half black and half white and to be honest thats exactly wus up...what blck people think about whites and what whites thank about blcks

well to me they had a chance to leave they did won't to that's what people were saying and for taylor swidt and kanya i wish people get over with it the only reason she won is because we felt sorry for her and now half of her fans don't like her because what she writes and what she does is dating around and bitching about joe jonas get over with it i don't like both of them i like carrie underwood better.

A comment made by Natalie Maines in England was held against her by the Country Music establishment: "We're ashamed he's from Texas". GWB said that the Dixie Chicks shouldn't get their feelings hurt because people are burning their CDs. Well GWB, the shoe's on the other foot. Get over it.

I agree fully with Kayne. I'm sure Bush would not have responded to a community where the majority of residence were white like he did in the Katrina situation. Bush will say anything now because he wants his new book to be "sold out" and in addition to that he knows that the majority of persons who put him in power is actually black. And to say so would actually be biting the hands that feed him but when you are a racist, just the things you do says more than the things you actually say. Until Bush can convince that he did the best he could then I am of the same opinion as West.

to me everybody needs to get over it its done i don't like both of them anymore taylor swift wines to danm much about every little thing

Kind of sick of people saying that Obama is cleaning up Bush's mess. It's been two years! Personally, I don't think calling in to Ryan Seacrest radio show, going on the View and going on Mythbusters is considered cleaning anything up. PS - At least when Bush was in office people had jobs.

ps *cuz i forgot to mention* i'm not black but still agree with kanye although i never liked kanye

i kinda agree with kanye this time xD GWB never did give alot of intention to black people!! if u see the differences between obama and GWB u'll see tht obama's job right now is just cleaning up the mess that bush made! A hacker hacked the pentagon's computer system and sent the vids to the whole world about what the american solidiers were doing in iraq!it was a shock! The solidiers job was to keep peace and organization in iraq but it was the opposite! i saw it in my country malta and even in egypt when i was on a holiday! Thankgod that obama is planning to reduce the no. of solidiers in iraq till they all get bk to america!! I never liked GWB! An opinion

I remember it well,
West was standing next to Mike Myers when he made that *that off-color remark, and it was totally unnecessary. Standing beside him,Mike Myers was stunned by such an uncalled for remark. All
people were involved in this catastrophe, and we all felt the pain
feeling totally helpless, not knowing *exactly what to do. For
West to specifically name one group of people, when their were more than one group caught up in this tragedy clearly shows that he has long been a poor troubled soul who uses his mouth to get his a$$ in trouble.
After all theses years,I can easily understand The Former President's emotional attachment to such an ugly accusation.PEACE!
