Dancing With the Stars Recap: Jennifer Grey and Brandy Rule; Bristol Palin Attempts to Act Sexy

by at . Comments

Last night's Dancing With the Stars featured a new "Insta-Dance" twist on top of the more traditional performances, with the five pairs competing for up to 60 points.

To the surprise of no one, Jennifer Grey fought her ailing body all the way to the top, putting forth a quick step full of bounce and an instant rumba that was superb.

Right there with her was Brandy, whose waltz was full of grace and whose instant cha cha to Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" earned a standing ovation from the crowd.

Brandy and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Still the favorites to take home the Mirror Ball.

Jennifer fared slightly better in her instant dance, with Brandy's waltz giving her the slight edge there. Appropriately, the two favorites both earned a total of 57 points.

Flying under the radar all season but showing great improvement is Kyle Massey, who showcased a range of skills last night with a slow waltz and fast jive.

The boy becoming a man before our eyes was just one point behind the leaders when the dust settled Monday, making a compelling case he belongs in the finals.

Will the viewers reward him that?

As for Kurt Warner, he may not be in the same league as the above trio, but he's a lot better every week, and the fact that he's still dancing speaks volumes.

Both of his efforts last night were far from awful, but as much as he tried to let loose, he came up short on the technicalities and finished well back with 48.

He narrowly edged out Bristol Palin, whose attempt at a steamy Argentine tango kind of creeped us out, in no small part because all we can visualize is Sarah Palin.

Who was also on the show last night, we might add.

Mama Grizzly herself appeared in another taped segment, which is hilarious on so many levels we can't even get into them here. But it's beyond weird and funny.

Bristol the Pistol seemed to lose her concentration at times, and while she deserves credit for making it this far, she doesn't deserve (or want) to go any further.

Last night's full Dancing With the Stars leaderboard ...

  1. Jennifer Grey & Derek Hough: 27, 30 (57)
  2. Brandy & Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 29, 28 (57)
  3. Kyle Massey & Lacey Schwimmer: 27, 29 (56)
  4. Kurt Warner & Anna Trebunskaya: 24, 24 (48)
  5. Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas: 24, 23 (47)

Well? Will Bristol elude elimination for another week, or is it Kurt's time to go? Based on scores and talent, it's gotta be one of those two ... but you never know.

Who are you rooting for on Dancing With the Stars?

Max needs to grow up and man up! The criticism from the Judge was about him not Brandy. This is a competition not a "give me my due show" . The other dancers and pros are good people and athletes as well; part of a performance competition is dealing with the judges and figuring out a way to win. Any male jerk can fight and pop off at a woman judge on national television and try to spin that he was actually defending the honor of his female student. Carrie Anne did her job and called it as she saw it , Max should act like the pro he says he is and figure out how to keep his cool when he is not getting the praise or glory he thinks he deserves. Athletes and professional dancers compete, that's what they do! Grace under pressure is a good lesson to teach aspiring dancers, "Max cracked and that's a fact !!! "

Bristol Palin sucks, and to put her even in the vacinity of Grey is laughable. It's time for the Palins to get real jobs. Jennifer has a real job, she's a dancer. The Palins are money whores, si U dib;t watcg.

Wow Free Britney. You do know that it is Bristol Palin who is dancing and not her mother? Are you the same as your mother? At least Bristol shows up and gives it her all each week, which is still miles better than kurt Warner. As for Brandy, what is up with Len saying that he saw flaws in her performance, then turning around and pulling out the 10 paddle? I'm sorry, but the judging this season is showing some real signs of bias toward Brandy. Did anyone else notice that almost every move she did in her "Instant" Dance was one we have seen in her other non Cha Cha Cha dances in the past three weeks. How can you give her 28 points for half a recycled dance!

i think Bristol Palin is great! she is just trying to prove that, even with her background, that she is NOT her mom. as for Brandy... the judges ALWAYS have a favorite person! at first it was Jenifer Grey. but now its brandy.and kurt just flat out STINKS!!!! i think the "underdogs" should win (Kyle and Lacey or Bristol and Mark).

It was wonderful seeing Jennifer's dad Academy Award Winning Actor(for Cabaret) Joel Grey. What a nice father/daughter moment during rehearsals. Jennifer will always be Baby from Dirty Dancing, and a joy to watch as a performer on DWTS.
Brandy and Mak are like two lovers breaking up to make up on the dance floor. Love these two.
Kurt and Anna, Kurt reminds me of a more handsome Kramer (from Seinfeld)with just the right dancing partner.
Lacey and Kute Kyle are like a dancing duo who met in school, and are kicking up their heels enjoying the fun of dancing.
Mark the 2 time champion, and whining Bristol are next to go!!

Jennifer, Brandy and Kyle are my top 3. Viewing Jennifer as a has been would be spitting on what movies she's been in that meant so much to my generation. Bristol needs to go home. Her second dance was like watching one of the zombies from "The Walking Dead" wander around the dance floor. If the producers don't want their show to become a joke they'll exercise their right and get her the hell out before we have to endure a Shimmy freestyl, since that's all Ballas can get out of her.

Ms. Grey is a whiny entitled 50 year old has been. Honestly her winning would do what exactly for her career? I'm all about giving it to brandy who could actually benefit from this win and does it without having to grab "I'm special" card

Dancing with the Stars Quotes

We should have started dancing with one arm waaay before.

Cristian de la Fuente [following his injury, trip to the hospital and subsequent stellar performance]

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
