Teen Mom's Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley: Under Investigation, in Therapy

by at . Comments

Like her Teen Mom co-stars Maci Bookout and Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood has not had an easy time of it after giving birth at the tender age of 18.

Amber's in a totally different league, however.

Police are investigating Portwood after she was seen hitting ex-fiance Gary Shirley on last week's episode of the MTV show that glorifies teen pregnancy.

Gary Shirley and Amber Portwood in happier, less violent times.

The Anderson Police Department in Indiana have now launched an investigation into the incident, in which Amber looked to be kicking her man as well.

"We were made aware of the domestic abuse following the episode that aired on MTV," Anderson Public Information Officer Mitch Carroll told reporters.

"Based on that there was a case drafted. The Department of Child Protective Services in Indiana notified us that they are aware of the incident as well."

Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley are now seeking counseling.

Her father Shawn confirmed that she is doing everything she can to salvage her relationship with her on-off fiance and the father of her small child.

Shawn revealed that Amber and Gary have been in counseling for months, and he hopes that they get married, despite the aforementioned battle.

"It's my understanding they're doing just fine," Shawn said. "They're now going to couples counseling. It was their idea as a whole, them together."

Hopefully they work it out for the good of everyone involved.

This show does NOT show how hard parenting is AT ALL. As a mom at 19, I know how hard it is. They have all this money from the show, they are living on their own, driving nicer cars than I have. I've been working my butt off since the day I turned 18. Let's see these girls struggle to buy diapers, or see them suffer being hungry just so their little one can eat. This show does NOT show what it's like to be a TEEN MOM. It shows how to be a spoiled little rich mom.

I think Amber is crazy, and needs to grow up. She does not even know how good she has it. How many 18 year olds can actually afford their own place in the first place. I think she is a spoiled brat that needs to be put in her place. Leaving a knife and fork on a suitcase so that Leah could get hurt. And I hate how she just expects Leah to just lay in the crib all day while she sleeps. I think Gary needs to take Leah as well. Hopefully the show will show other teens what they would have to give up if they had a baby.

I agree also with Janice. I too have followed this from the very beginning and do not agree that they are glorifying teen pregnancy. I would be all for it that they show this to kids in 7th and 8th grade so they can really see what there lives would be like if they got pregnant.
Amber does have a lot of issues and mostly becuase she is immature and does not know how to handle the life she chose. Gary is a very nice guy for even wanting to stay with her because they have a daughter. He needs to take Leah and raise her on his own. Better than have a crazy bitch yell and swearing all the time. Leah is going to have a lot of issues and will think all this is normal when it absolutely is not! Thanks God CPS has stepped in~that is what they are for!

I have been watching the show since the beginning (when all of them were on 16 and pregnant) and I disagree that the show glorifies teen pregnancy. I think it does just the opposite and shows just how hard parenthood is - at any age. That being said, Amber has serious, serious problems and I still can't believe that MTV producers did not intervene when she was hitting Gary. We all know if it was the other way around, the episode would have ended with him being taken away in handcuffs. Poor Leah.
