It would make a better story, but no. The Melrose Place star's rep says that contrary to tabloid reports: "Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner are not engaged."

A friend also said the two had no plans to tie the knot, saying that reports claiming Wagner proposed the birthday bash he threw for Locklear were completely false.

"There was no proposal and there is no engagement," the friend insisted. "It was a regular birthday party with good friends, candles and a cake, but that's it."

Just the same, they've been together for more than three years (when she divorced Richie Sambora) and she's said she's "in it for the long haul." So stay tuned ...
