by at . Comments

The Dilemma is an upcoming movie that stars Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. In a trailer for the comedy, Vaughn's character uses the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion.

Upon seeing this promo, Anderson Cooper shared his concern over such a quote, going off to Ellen DeGeneres over how language plays a critical role in the mindsets of impression children.

"I was shocked that not only that they put it in the movie, but that they thought that it was okay to put that in a preview for the movie to get people to go and see it," he told Ellen.

Added Cooper:

"We've got to do something to make those words unacceptable because those words are hurting kids... the words people use and the things people say about other kids online, it enters into their internal dialogue."

The issue of bullying is in the national conscious these days, following a rash of teenage suicides, which has prompted numerous celebrities to post YouTube messages meant to comfort at-risk youths. In his, Tim Gunn
admits to attempting suicide at the age of 17.

"When you're a kid, it can change the way you see yourself and the way you think about yourself, and the worth that you give to yourself. I think we need to really focus on what language we're using and how we're treating these kids," the CNN anchor said.

Do you agree with Cooper's take? Or is he being overly sensitive? Watch The Dilemma trailer in question below:

UPDATE: A rep for Universal Pictures says: "The teaser trailer for 'The Dilemma' was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced. A full trailer, which has been in the works for some time, will post online later today."

If THEY add REFUDIATE to the engilsh dictionary, THEY might as well add WORSER!!!!!!,,,,,,,

When people mention stereotypes of my race they are usually right on the money and i dont get offended by it.I know the truth hurts, but we have to live with it,it's called reality.People are going to say what ever the hell they want about you whether you like it or not and you are not going to change their opinion.

“Hey guys, check out this engagement ring I bought for Laura.
“Wow, that’s really nice. Did you get a good deal on it?
“Nah, the guy totally Jewed me. How many of you people defending the gay=stupid comment would also support the above statement appearing in the trailer of an upcoming movie?

It was stated earlier "what other meaning is there for the word gay?" besides the obvious that we have already hit upon, homosexual or happy, most people use the word in this time to mean something is "girlie"...no that is probably not in a freakin dictionary but that is how it is....in this scene im pretty sure that is what is meant by the "gay" comment....wow seriously just let it go..gonna be a great movie and everybody even some of the people that are offended will still end up watching it!! :-)

It looks like the majoriity of folks posting here know where all of this is coming from.I don't know if Anderson Cooper is defending gay issues to protect himself from being outted by the gay community or if he is just becoming militant, but he is certainly loosing favor with me.

First of all. I really do like Anderson Cooper of CNN, as a news
reporter. However, I am wondering why he now is taking such a strong stand on this issue. The reason I ask is because it was not long ago Mr. Cooper had been photographed along side of Mr. Andy Cohen,(of the Real Housewives Franchise on BRAVO TV) at a fashion show. Mr. Cohen has made it well known he is gay. So is
Mr. Cooper once and for all, going to answer the question about
his own sexual life style? (Not that it is anyone's business.)
Or has he answered that question and I missed it?......Jeepers

How come when it's something to do with Gays it becomes such a big deal?, when it's not always meant that way some people are too sensitive and take every little thing way out of line.

Just to add to what I said below, by feminine I don't mean that a gay man is a female, I mean that gay men often, but not always, have more feminine attributes to their character/personality. To me, the scene is simply equating this to the green car. Vince Vaughn's character is saying that those cars aren't going to appeal to people who like Harley's, hot rods, or pick-up trucks. And, in reality, it's true. Green cars don't sell well to ultra masculine men.

Anderson Cooper is trying to turn this into a "politically correct" issue about bullying, etc. No one is bullying anybody as a result of this scene. The meaning behind the scene in the movie is in the fact that most green cars look feminine. In this scene, they are equating feminine with the word gay. They are not saying that gay = stupid or gay = bad as Cooper is trying to imply. 99% of the world would answer "feminine" when asked what word comes to mind when you hear the word "gay"? Did anyone address the scene in 40 Year Old Virgin? Maybe Cooper would have more of an argument.

I thought Ron Howard was kinda intelligent. Apparently not if he is happy to trade in cheap homophobia. The lowest common denominator wins again. Go neanderthals!
