In the end, nudity won out over tragedy.
Both Katy Perry and Fantasia Barrino debuted new albums last week, with the former's "Teenage Dream" selling 192,000 copies to take first place on the charts; Fantasia's "Back to Me" came in second with 117,000 copies sold.
Perry promoted her CD by hosting the Teen Choice Awards, stripping down to her lingerie in Rolling Stone and posing naked on her album cover.
Fantasia, conversely, was in the news for dating a married man, trying to kill herself and then rebounding to perform in Las Vegas and send a message to her haters.Overall, it was a very slow week for sales. Perry's total of 192,000 is paltry compared to the number of albums sold by chart-topping artists earlier this summer: Drake moved 447,000, while Eminem went off with 741,000.
