Prop 8 Overturned; Celebrities Tweet Reactions to Monumental Decision

by at . Comments

Earlier today, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker announced his verdict regarding Prop 8, the controversial ballot proposition that was passed in November 2008 and banned gay marriage in California.

Judge Walked deemed the amendment a violation of the Constitution's equal protection clause under the 14th Amendment and overturned it. THG's reaction to this news?

Hooray! There's no practical argument against the harmless institution of gay marriage, and every reason to treat homosexuals the same as heterosexuals. As for the reaction in Hollywood, an outspoken community when it came to this issues? Here are a handful of responses:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger: "This decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves."

Ellen DeGeneres: "Equality won!"

Portia de Rossi: "I am ecstatic that proposition 8 has been overturned in the state of California. This is an incredibly exciting and historical day and a big step towards equal rights for all."

Lance Bass: "Congrats on the overturning of Prop 8!!!!"

Pink: "It’s a good day!"

Adam Lambert: It's time to "throw glitter on this barn!

Kelly Osbourne: "so happy over the news on prop8 its about time!"

Kim Kardashian: "Prop 8 was struck down! This news is amazing!!!! Its about time! Congrats to everyone!"

Shanna Moakler: "Tonight we celebrate! EQUALITY and LOVE for all! This is so much bigger then [sic] marriage, it's about wisdom, compassion and knowing we CAN be heard, action DOES make a difference!"

Samantha Ronson: "Song Of The Day: Let's Get Married- Jagged Edge."

Olivia Munn: "Prop 8 Overturned!!! Equal rights for everyone! Nice to be out of the 1950s..."

Seth Myers: "Prop 8 was always my least favorite Prop. Favorite Prop: Joe."

Vote No

Kelly: so are you saying we are on the same level as animals? funny
Kylehere: such a sick thing to say...but consider the source
Reese: sounds like you are very i like boys or girls or just sex? oh, maybe you identify with Kelly's comments....and just be an "animal"....
grow up all of you!

by the way, since the judge that overturned the "voice of the people" just happened to be gay himself, is anyone really surprised at the verdict?! geez.....why do gay people try so hard to convince everyone that they are "normal". why do gay people have to throw being gay in everyone's face all of the time? i don't see heterosexual people going around making an issue out of EVERYTHING! If gay is so right, then why can't two women have babies? do any of you know where aids even started, and why? i guess that was "right" too! this is ridiculous. nobody ever says that God doesn't love us all (we are all his children). but when you have free will, break the rules, there is PUNISHMENT. The worst is yet to party hearty while you can!

Swift2: I agree. It is wrong. that is if you believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Have any of you people ever heard of Sodom and Gomorrah? God had enough and did something about it! i just wonder how much longer he is going to tolerate this world we now live in where "anything goes"??? But, Swift2, you might as well save your breath on here. It is very admirable of you though to be brave enough to stand up for what is right! Don't you just love this new philosphy of life (especially in California--mainly with the STARS?) If it feels good, do it?! but, it is true, one day we will all be held responsible for our own actions. Lots of people are in for a crude awakening!

I really have nothing important to say about all of this except I think that Adam Lambert's statement about throwing glitter on the barn had nothing to do with Prop 8. I believe he was referring to the venue where they were playing that night. If I am wrong, someone correct me but I have seen this quote on severals sites and I think he is being misquoted, again.

ok seriously people get a life, just because someone likes the same sex doesn't make them bad.or sinning against god.I for one have a friend that's gay and one is a lesbian and my sister in law as well is a lesbian.and i love them just as much as i would anyone else.I am glad that California is now allowing gay marriage..we are all humans and deserve marriage should not be feared by history there were people that were gay i mean look at Alexander the great he was bi and might I add an important person in History.. and by the way God loves all of us gay, straight, bi, lesbian or transgendered. Hopefully more states will follow

shut up you piece of shit.
how would you react if you were told you couldnt love the person you love.?
as a bi-sexual girl, it seriously brings me down that you could even think that way.
fuck you and all of youre followers.

Homosexual activity is unnatural and not very safe. That being said, no one should be discriminated against. Proposition 8 takes away the protection and benefits that marriage provides, which is a fundamental right to all.

I just don't get people like you. If two people are in love with each other, men or women, why not let them be? Don't we all have equal rights? Isn't America a free country? It is none of YOUR business what those two people do. I get that you don't approve of it, and that you may think that they are "going to hell" for their "sins", but that is THEIR problem, not yours. WHY DO YOU CARE? Just... Why? Why make a big deal out of it? I don't understand...

Take that you bigoted assholes, especially the blacks who voted for Prop 8. Guess they haven't been discriminated against enough to discriminate against another group.

Hey Swift!!! Ever tasted a dog's weiner? Me neither. Apples to oranges you piece of sh**!
