Levi Johnston is nothing if not a man of the people.

Having declared his intent to run for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, the baby daddy of Bristol Palin made his first official campaign stop last weekend ... at a gun shop.

A source at Chimo Guns in Wasilla says LKJ rolled up with a camera crew and played like a politician, shaking hands and taking every advantage of the photo op.

GUNS BLAZIN': Levi (with sister Mercede Johnston) cleans up nice, but is still true to his own nature. A loyal shop customer shop, he didn't buy anything ... this time.

Reports say Levi tried out some of the merchandise, such as a $2,000 ultra lightweight rifle, and talked with some of the employees at the shop about hunting, though the political aspirant hasn't had any time to do much himself lately.

Possibly because of the reality show thing. Shocker: Bristol's not a fan.
