Jennifer Aniston Says Retard on TV
Jennifer Aniston was just discussing her Barbara Streisand-inspired Harper's Bazaar photo shoot on Live with Regis and Kelly when everything went haywire.
Dropping the r-bomb will do that.
Already the subject of criticism from Bill O'Reilly, who called her destructive to society for remarks about single parenting, Jen has a new group mad at her.
First, Regis remarked "You played dress up!" Jen's reply? "I do it for a living, like a retard." Laughter? Crickets? Peter Burns, CEO of The Arc, a nonprofit advocate for disabled persons, found it "extraordinarily offensive and inappropriate."
Think she crossed the line? Here's the clip:
"Frankly, someone in her position ought to know better," he said. "She is using language that is offensive to a large segment of the population in this country."
Of the five million mentally disadvantaged people in the U.S., and many millions more with friends and family members who suffer from such obstacles, he said:
"Every time folks hear that word, it kind of reminds them of all the discrimination and oppression... Even if it wasn't intended to insult them, that is the effect of it."
Good luck stealing Brad back after this debacle, Jen.

TACT people. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH..blah,blah,blah, BS, BS, BS. If I hear anyone use this word, I think A LOT LESS OF THEM & will speak my peace of mind when I hear this word.. Now that is freedom of speech. American Idiots-a name of a certain album...starting to believe it's TRUE.

These advocacy groups should go to the gulf and help cleaning the oil spill to humanize the environment or find something else to do. Dehumanization is what they do when they look for every little thing to say so that others will notice them. My niece is retarded and we know very well that this is a result of our human condition. (Maybe do to the amount of birth control pills my sister took to avoid a second pregnancy. Maybe do to the crazy way she dealt with her youth, the drinking, smoking…), we know that Laura is retarded and there is nothing we can do about it but caring, supporting, and loving her. We are not concerned about getting offended when we hear the word “RETARDED” which is a self explanatory word. When some people hear the expression “Mentally Challenged” they tend to immediately ask, what is that? Let us stop pretending that these advocacy groups work hard to keep people from using “Dehumanizing” words and instead let us get busy helping those under human

People need to get a "LIFE" she said retard... not to mention she was referring to herself... and when I referred to someone with a disabilty I use the term special. If you take offense maybe you should move to a country that doesn't have freedom of speech.

@andrea ismail...um, it's spelled "dumBer then dumB."
Who gives a flyin' crap...Obama made this same mistake and people forgave him and forgot about it. And, furthermore, if we are no longer calling them "retards" and are now calling them "people with intelligence disabilities" (person-first classification) than it would stand to reason that this isn't offensive and in fact it would have been more offensive if she had said "I do it for a living, like a person with intelligence disabilities."

The word "retard" doesn't just refer to a mentally slow person. The dictionary says it also means a person who is stupid, obtuse, or ineffective in some way. I am so tired of people trying to impose their own insecurities on everyone else. If when you use the word retard, you mean it in a disparaging way and you feel bad about it, don't use it!!! It won't be long and mechanics won't be allowed to retard a distributor!

Jesus, who really cares...so she called "herself" a retard...wtf...
The sooner someone tells the media and public to F-off the sooner all this political correctness BS will be over...
Way to go Jennifer you did just fine....

Please, she did it on purpose!! She's just another not so talented actor who will do anything to get more attention and to have the media talking about her. I can't stand her! Any woman who is considering paying a surrogate to give birth to her child because she doesn't want to ruin her body is extremely shallow!

get over it

Another example of people trying to be pc. They don't realize Jennifer is human like the rest of us. Maybe it was poor taste but it was likely just a 'slip of the tongue'. I don't think she said it to hurt or offend anyone and she was referring to herself anyway. People need to get a grip and not freak out over this.Don't make a mountain out of a molehill over this. It's just stupid. The fact is there are people who are retarded, the word has been around forever it's not going away so get over it. People are being way too sensitive about this.
