really guys you can all hate but shes hott, she lives in a diff. type of world then a regular 17 year old she has been in this industry since she was like 13 and grew up in it before that, and all 17 year old girls have that inner sexy they wanna let out and she gets to do that through her music so fuck it let her. She looks goodn sounds good, and has a huge fan base. Shes not a bad role model we don't see her with white powder in her nose, or rolling out of a club at 3 am lit. So while the writers of this site are sitting here bashing a 17 year old whos finding who she is they are doing their job and she is doing hers. And she is going to be a constant contratiction until she figures that out, shes out there making millions doing what she loves lol like the guy said before she performed... 15 million albums sold!!!! not many 17 year olds can say that

that's some old referencing, i doubt the young miley fans would even know who they are...
anyway, i doubt that either of them would be very successful in today's music industry
fact is you need shock factor and gimmicks to attract the attention of today's audience
look at lady gaga....she is huge and there is nothing special about her except for crazy outfits and weird behaviour...sure she can sing and write an okay - not great- song...but did she rely on just that to make her a star? no. you know why, because she knew it wouldn't be enough.
there is so much coming at us from the media, and every day there is a new act out there, you have to do shocking stuff to get the attention of the media and your audience, so they remember you and talk about you, any press is good press. that's the whole premise of the celeb business now...and i say celeb, not music or film...because they are more interested in being celebs than in bei

I want to know what ever happened to originality? Nothing she is doing hasn't been done before. Be creative, don't copy other acts that have just recently been done. Hollie said she watched it and she didn't really kiss the dancer. I say who cares, she mimicked it and that is just as bad. God forbid a singer of today's generation had to just stand on stage and sing. Singers who had talent years ago, ie. Olivia Newton-John, Karen Carpenter, etc. could just come out on stage, stand there and sing and the crowd went wild. No antics, just a voice. It just shows that performers today are not all singers they just use their stage act to sell their music, it's very sad.

@tara: I agree, and that's my point: she's following the formula of all Disney-created stars that wish to reach a new audience. That's perfectly fine... BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE SAYS.
In fact, she goes in the opposite direction and calls her music "art" and makes a point of saying she's so, so different than other pop singers. That's my problem with her. It's the pompous attitude and the blatant hypocritical behavior.

I don't think what she did was shocking, as it has been done so many times...
i mean, what exactly was so shocking or unpredictable about any of that?
it just looked to me like a recycling of all that predecessors of pop/dance performances...and the whole girls kissing on stage, which is still concur that it was not very convincing as a real kiss, i don't think she needs to own up to doing anything shocking. she's clearly following a formula of young girls trying to transition from disney to mainstream pop sex symbol
its a difficult age right now for her in marketing her music...she's too old for the teeny bopper stuff, and she wants to be taken seriously...this has been the method used by her predecessors and it so far has seemed to be effective for them
so why wouldn't she follow in her own role model's footsteps? and why should she 'own up to it'? isn't it clear to everyone that this is what she is doing?

We make fun of Britney plenty, don't worry. And we give Billy Ray Cyrus a hard time every time he opens his mouth about Miley "just having fun."
The reason I pick on Miley the most, though, is not just that she dresses this way and does these things -- it's due to her pompous, phony attitude. She talks about how her music is "art" and how it's so much more profound than pop music. THG is consistent in calling out hypocrites. As long as you're open about who you are, we're pretty much fine with you...
Case in point: as I mentioned in this article, Adam Lambert has crossed the line in the past. But he stepped up, admitted he went too far and would happily say he's often flamboyant and aims to shock. He doesn't spew nonsense about how deep and special his music is, while making out with people of the same sex.

Can't exactly argue with someone whose initial premise is more misguided than Kate Gosselin's mothering philosophy.

you guys really seem to hate miley...i know she is only 17 and doing stuff that's not setting a 'good example'...but shouldn't you take your anger out on the industry, her predecessors for setting this as the standard/norm, and the adults controlling her career (not just her parents but her manager, choreographer etc.)?
You pointed out that she is NOT the first to do this, so why is she getting such harsh criticism for doing it then?? I don't think people were nearly this hard on brit or xtina...i think they were too busy making money off them and oogling them to do this much bitching and moaning...
anyway, most 17 year olds are doing more than kissing people, so i really don't think she is doing anything that extreme here...and have you see what the average teen girl wears today?? showing a little leg in a choreographed dance...well...lady gaga could be blamed for setting a poor example for younger stars like miley in that regard...so could madonna and so on...
