Chris Brown BET Awards Tribute to Michael Jackson: Tears Flow For the Man in the Mirror

by at . Comments

Last night's BET Awards featured lots of big names - Kanye West, Usher, T.I. - but perhaps the most talked-about performance came from Chris Brown.

The embattled singer, who has kept a relatively low profile of late, provided an emotional tribute to the late Michael Jackson, breaking down in tears.

Chris was introduced by Michael's brother, Jermaine Jackson.

After a lengthy performance featuring the sickest Michael-inspired dance moves you'll ever see, Brown took the mic to sing "Man in the Mirror" and lost it.

Nearly six minutes into the elaborate MJ homage, his voice cracked, he couldn't sing, and at one point he crumpled to the stage in apparent agony.

MAN IN THE MIRROR: For Chris Brown, that Michael Jackson hit took on an entirely different meaning as he paid tribute to his idol on stage at the 2010 BET Awards.

Coupled with the one-year anniversary of Michael's death, the moving moment was made even more so by the song's lyrics and Chris' recent past.

The 21-year-old returned to the stage later to apologize to his fans: "I let you all down before, but I won't do it again. I promise you," Brown said.

Say what you will about the guy and what he's been through, the performance was actually pretty cool and showed how MJ's music influenced him.

Was that really what it was about, though? Or was it about exploiting Michael's memory for some much-needed positive PR, as some fans have said?

Here's Chris Brown channeling Michael Jackson ...

Everyone deserve a second chance. Give the guy a second chance, let's see if he can prove that he is sorry. As for as the tribute to MJ goes, as a fan of MJ, Chris did a good job. But crazy as it is, I kept wishing that MJ would walk out on that stage and show the young guy how the king does it. Was the tears for real? I don't know. I watch Stevie Wonder break down in tears when he was singing a song for MJ. So what Chris Brown did to the young lady was wrong, hear me, he was wrong, but let he who is without sin, cast the first stone. My best to Chris and Rhiannia. Life is to short, live it, try not to hurt others, help others if you can. It's about love!!!!

I could tell his tears were real and his emotion was so raw that I felt it through the television. I say forgive the man. I was in an abusive relationship and I believe that people CAN change. Before I married my husband we used to get into arguments and it often got physical but I sought help for my own anger issues and he sought help for his abusive ways. We are both able to better communicate with one another and we have been together without any problems for 2 years now and we've been married for 1 year. So long story short I say leave the man alone he's done his time! Who are we to judge him? Who are we to judge anybody? What if the world was watching our every move, dictating our lives and making a long drawn-out issue out of every mistake we've ever made? How would you feel? It all goes back to that saying in kindergarten..."treat people the way you want to be treated".

You people in this world are so disgusting . Can,t you all see the tears were real i mean that was the past and things like that do happen. Just because he is a celebrity dose not mean he is not human. Everyone and i do mean EVERYONE makes mistakes. The past is the past the future is what lies ahead . So don't stay in the past move forward ...he has! Why cant you bloggers and news reports just leave it alone.I am sure some of you stereo type reports had a experience like this . Some of you all act so perfect just to get the paycheck. As a person who lives in todays world be real not every one has the fab life and is always under a telescope. so just give it up because i may not be a fan of him but at the end of the day fans over power media any day and it will always be that way .. he has apologized like a million times and done his time... SO PLEASE JUST GIVE IT A REST

Its ashame how we are going back and forth with the situation of Chris Brown. First and foremost, I am a Big Fan of Chris Brown and he physically abuse Rihanna, I stopped supporting him. I was hurt that a young man like himself would do any thing like that to hurt sumbody he loved. My mother was abuse for several years before she left her husband and that's who I saw in Rihanna. I hated Chris Brown for that and I wanted him to get severe punishment. When I saw his performance at the BET Awards, I broke down in tears. I felt his regrets, pain, and sorrows. Thats when I forgave him because I saw that he finally realize, understood, and aknowledge the mistake he made. If you didnt feel that performance, then maybe you have problems that you need to let go of. Everybody deserves a second chance in life...How do you think you gotten this far? Im pretty sure you didnt do every thing right the first time. Instead of downing him, we should be helping and praising him to be a better man.

And amina, that's bullshit. There are plenty of people who have suffered from abuse and would never do the things Chris or any other abuser did. You would think that seeing his mom suffer from it would prevent Chris from making another woman suffer.

So Micheal Vick should lose his career for torturing dogs, yet Chris Brown gets a break from torturing a human? I don't understand you people sometimes! It disgust me! The man needs to lose his career to really realize how horrible his past action is. He will always believe that he can do whatever he wants and still be praised through a simple apology and some charity work. Same goes for assholes like Charlie Sheen or Alec Baldwin who vocally abused his daughter. This leeway towards celebrities is making me sick, and you people all just fuel it.

Is actions with Rhianna is a resutl of the years of abuse he and his mom suffered when he was a kid by his stepdad. The media never discusses that apect of his life. He was probablt crying because he was so dissappointed in himself.
