Bret Michaels: I'm Lucky to Be Alive
by Hilton Hater at .Just two weeks after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, Bret Michaels is conscious, talking and even considering a return to the stage.
For the first time since this medical scare, the rocker is opening up about the experience, telling People in its latest issue that he feels "lucky to be alive."
He details his initial visit to the emergency room, as a doctor asked Bret if he had kids. Michaels relays his response:
"I said in these exact words, 'Am I dying? If I'm dying, I want to see my kids, but if I have a chance, I don't want them to see me in this condition.'"
Bret is the father to Raine, 9, and Jorja, 5.
The singer has left the ICU and is stationed at an undisclosed rehabilitation facility for physical therapy. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery, an impressive feat that typically occurs in just 10 to 20 percent of all cases.
Rock on, Bret. Rock on for many more decades to come.
