Sean Hayes: Yes, I'm Gay

For years, Sean Hayes portrayed the character of Jack on the sitcom Will & Grace, a hilarious, over-the-top, eccentric gay man.

And, for years, it was an open secret in Hollywood that the actor himself was also gay.

But Hayes never spoke on the issue, actually earning the wrath of The Advocate because the publication felt he was obligated to step up and own his sexuality.

Now, the Emmy Award winner has sat down with that same magazine and come out of the closet. Well, sort of. He doesn't see it that way.

“I am who I am. I was never in, as they say," Hayes tells The Advocate in its latest issue.

It's true: Hayes never paraded around any red carpets with a woman by his side. He never lied about his sexual orientation. He simply took the novel approach that it's no one's business who he sleeps with.

There were also professional reasons behind his silence. Hayes says:

"When I play a gay character I want to be as believable as possible. And when I’m playing a straight character I also want to be as believable as possible. So the less that people know about my personal life, the more believable I can be as a character.”

Makes perfect sense to us.

However, some morons (e.g. Perez Hilton) place pressure on famous gay people (such as Adam Lambert and Neil Patrick Harris) to come out as soon as possible and to base everything around their sexuality. To this, Hayes responds:

“Nobody owes anything to anybody. You are your authentic self to whom and when you choose to be, and if you don’t know somebody, then why would you explain to them how you live your life?”

Sean Hayes might be our new favorite celebrity.

It's kind of sad that homosexuality continues to be an issue among human beings, it doesn't matter what you are. The most important is the kind of human you are, good quality is always welcomed no matter the sexual orientation one might have. I'm happy for this wonderful actor, he was always my favorite in Will and Grace. I bought all the seasons, we need more TV series like that. I'm proud of you Sean Hayes, God Bless You. I wish you the best always, take care. I also wish the best to all of you still in the closet, just remember to be happy, that's all it matters. Anyway, let's try to be the best we can. That's what this world needs right now, greetings to everyone.

It would be different IF it were that simple but not all gay, homosexual, queer, sodomite, lesbian support that theory. There are those who want to flaunt their ideology and make demands for rights that are absurd. The flamers like Adam Lambert and several others that exploit young boys and have no cooth when it comes to decency. I could care less what others do in their bedroom or private lives just dont force your obscenities and bizarre kifestyle on me.

Like most things, coming out of the closet has morphed into something it was never meant to be. The concept evolved due to people being forced to live a lie in order to "survive" in this bigoted world. E.g. If your parents didn't know about it or is against alt life styles. Now, I guess everyone that's a star has to wear signs on their forehead saying their gay? This is ridiculous. If someone is comfortable in their own skin and those around them love them and supports them, they shouldn't have to say anything. One's sexuality is personal. Why can't we keep it that way?

if i'm NOT involved personally with someone their sexual preference is none of my concern. straight or gay,my brother stated recently that as a career military man he knew many gays, and it was not his concern, his only concern was if they did their duty, as defined by law and oath. same here, chosing to be open or not is a personal choice. not for public outcry.
