Dancing with the Stars Recap: Her Name is Nicole

by at . Comments

Dancing with the Stars kicked off its second week Monday night by shuffling the order and injecting the Foxtrot and Jive into the mix for the 11 pairings.

Like last week, Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough led the pack, and are (right now) the odds-on favorites to win this thing barring one of two scenarios:

  1. Fans become accustomed to her terrific performances as the norm and consider her so much of a lock, they just don't vote (see Sabrina Bryan).
  2. She has a train wreck performance like Kate Gosselin's last night.

The first scenario is more likely, and you can't count out a number of other strong competitors, of course. But the name to beat thus far is definitely Nicole.

Here's a tiered breakdown of last night's Dancing with the Stars scores, along with the dance they performed and their combined two-week totals ...

The judges were kind to Nicole, Erin, Pam and their respective partners.

Early favorites

Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough (Jive) - 53 (25, 28).

The competition

Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya (Jive) - 47 (23, 24).

Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Foxtrot) - 44 (21, 23).

Pamela Anderson & Damien Whitewood (Foxtrot) - 43 (21, 22).

Hanging around

Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower (Jive) - 40 (20, 20).

Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel (Foxtrot) - 39 (18, 21).

Shannen Doherty & Mark Ballas (Jive) - 38 (18, 20).

Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke (Foxtrot) - 34 (18, 16).

Hoping for a fan bailout

Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani (Jive) - 31 (16, 15).

Buzz Aldrin & Ashly Costa (Foxtrot) - 26 (14, 12).

Likely not going to get it

Aiden Turner & Edyta Sliwinska (Foxtrot) - 32 (15, 19).

Yeah, it doesn't look good for Aiden Turner. Kate Gosselin can at least count on voter support despite her terribleness, and Buzz Aldrin ... is Buzz Aldrin. You don't vote an astronaut off. Aiden lacks skills and a devoted fan base. Gone tonight.

I read that the producers were trying to help keep gosselon, I was under the impression, you dance, dance well, you remain on the show. She does not dance well, she really does not dance at all, therefor she really should go. Also yes she has been through a divorce but alot of us have, that does't give the right to be a nasty person. If she doesn't change her attitude she can bet she will never have any friends.

Nicole is good but the judges are oversocring her to fast too soon. Nicole is good but she's not the best ever to come along as the judges are hyping her to be. I can remember more Mario Lopez, Sabrina Bryan, Mel B., Joey Fatone,Stacey Kiebler, being better than her at this point with there dances than her. Nicole Jive didn't deserve 2 10's it should of be 9's at least. It could come and bite her from the public vote. Nothing can compare to what happened to Sabrina Bryan on season 5 being voted off so soon and alot fan's vote vote now more because of that event.

Tony is not likely to be confrontational because he's such a nice guy, but lets be honest Kate just hasn't had the chances to be the nicest person and after her divorce she really hasn't had much of a chance to be with people who would be honest with her enough to allow her to change for the better. I feel bad for her, she's a product of her experiences. She is trying her best so I give her that but she does make it harder for herself than it needs to be. It's week two and every vote counts, so make sure you take the time to share your opinions. http://www.baduku.com/dwts10

Dancing with the Stars Quotes

We should have started dancing with one arm waaay before.

Cristian de la Fuente [following his injury, trip to the hospital and subsequent stellar performance]

I am not the best dancer, and I have not been the best dancer from the beginning. I am happy we made it this far.
