@Maria - Ty so much for putting into words my exact thoughts.
Fans who have followed Adam Lambert closely from the very beginning of AI have experienced unbelieveable hate thrown at Adam constantly. He endures being called everything imaginable and he still rises above it. In my 52 yrs. I've NEVER seen any other artist treated like this, be it in the entertainment arena or AI. Most of us have learned to let the ugliness roll off our backs since it has become the norm as Adam so graciously does. The unprofessional handling and grand sensationalism of this "supposed" incident by nonsense publications such as yours and others has fueled that hate movement to the point where the comments are frightening. Yes, the lynch mob is alive and well and it makes me sick. I dare you to go look at the comments for each article posted all over the net. Be warned...you will be horrified at what you find. Then, come back and tell Adam's fans to "chill out". The LA Times was the only publication with

Who cares? Seriously if you talk sh!t about another artist and the fans start to post trash on this web. You don't give a damn but if it's Adam you write directly to his fans? I just want facts, objectivity and the truth.

@Hilton Hater--that's a really, really convoluted example you just gave. Your version of ignoring homophobia is to literally say "I'm not going to talk about homophobic comments my article generated, but I will talk about over-zealous comments of support for Lambert generated by my article" whereas Obama rescinding DADT would be to *fight against* homophobia.
Of course I know you're not making some grand comment on society. You're a gossip blog. I'm well aware of what you are and what your purpose is--and so are you, judging by which sort of comments you chose to write an article on. And honestly, I don't care in the end, you are what you are as a site and hey, keep on generating those hits. But please don't attempt to justify the hypocrisy of the article itself.

@Maria: How are we muzzling Adam fans? By all means, express your opinion. I say this directly in this article.
We just offered ours in response to the level of intensity before, which is a trend we've been seeing a lot.
I don't follow the accusation that "bigots must be given free reign." As opposed to what?

I am a huge fan of Adams, and I will always stick up for him. The only reason I ever come to this site is to read about Adam. If you write a positive story about Adam I will agree, and post something equally positive. If you write a negative story about Adam I will defend him. Thats a big part of the fun of being an Adam Lambert fan. I never know what he is going to do, or say. The man is never boring, thank God! If he were boring then nothing would be said. Adam is exciting all of the time, thats why we love him so much. Having said that, I still think you should check all of your facts before writing a story without proof. Please try to take into consideration that some blogs, and tabloids often have a hidden agenda, and do not always tell the truth. When you print something as fact without the proof just remember there are many people who still believe in the old days when journalists were educated to tell the truth, report the facts, and always try to have a reliable source. Yes Adam is a big boy but we his fans can respond as much as we want in whatever way we want. It gets really frustrating reading all the BS articles constantly misquoting him. By now we know Adam pretty well and one thing he is not is mean. All these wanna be writers are trying to ride the gravy train.

Valid points however, when you title an article with over the top negative words, i.e, rips, blasts etc that is all some people see. Not everyone opens the article and reads it. So, these people are left with an erroneous impression. This titles make it sound like Adam came out blasting Susan Boyle when the subject was brought up by the interviewer and wasn't even the main point of the original article.
As for Adam be able to defend himself, so can Susan Boyle or her management. Media once again went out of their way to stir people up against Adam and succeeded. The media states they don't cater to homophobes but they sure allow hateful and crude comments on their web sites.

So it is appropriate to post a blog attempting to muzzle the free speech and opinions and points of view of Adam fans, but bigots must to be given free reign to post whatever hate and vileness they want, all in the spirit of "healthy debate"?

I don't think you bloggers should be complaining about the fans getting overdramatic, because I think YOU are. You people are making a big deal about something that doesn't even matter, and maybe Adam WAS misquoted. You don't have to keep judging him by saying that he didn't say his exact words. I don't believe gossip unless there is proof, and there is no proof Adam said those exact things so I'm not going to believe it. Also, you are giving us all these reasons why we shouldn't attack you and you're doing the exact same thing to him. He says one "wrong" thing and you jump all over him! I'm not just saying that about your blog, I'm saying that about all of them. Yes, Adam has his opinion and maybe some people don't agree with him, bit hey, you missed the people who do. I'm not saying Susan is a bad singer,(and I don't think Adam said that either) but I don't think her album was that great either. To be honest, I think it's more of her background story that people liked, because I d

It's just ironic though isn't it that you choose to scold Lambert fans for their zealous positive defensiveness towards him and choose to ignore the haters. Odd. What's the purpose? If as you say the best way to quiet a movement is to ignore it, then why not ignore the Adam Lambert fans? Is it because your intent is to make Lambert fans look like the crazy ones?
Charlie
February 24th, 2010 6:27 PM
@Hilton Hater--Right, because all the ignoring of homophobia for the last 100+ years has really made a giant impact on it's presence today. *massive eye roll* You're a gossip blog, why don't you just stick to gossip and generating hits and not try to play at some higher level of commentary?
Hilton Hater Rank: Staff Member
February 24th, 2010 6:27 PM
@MJ: For the most part, we're a celebrity gossip site. This article plays directly into that industry, as it focuses on Adam and his fans.
Could we call out the other kind of crazy, as you put it, and pen an editorial saying "Homophobic Bigots are Reprehensible, Vile People That Make Us Ashamed to Breathe the Same Air as Them?" Yes, I suppose we could.
But that's getting way off topic and it also raises these morons up to a level we do not feel they deserve. I know it's hard, but it really is best to just ignore such petty, ignorant individuals.

February 24th, 2010 6:22 PM
I read through the comments on the previous post, and while there was a certain level of shall we say intenseness from some of Adam's fans, that was essentially harmless.
The sickening homophobia and bigotry (saying all gay people should be registered as sex offenders, for example) - that's what you're going to let go unchecked though? That's as good as endorsing it as far as I'm concerned.
If you're going to call out one kind of crazy, call them all.

@Ryan, and others with this view: By no means, do we "give a pass" to the homophobes on this site. What would you like us to do, get into an online shouting match with narrow-minded, ignorant bigots that crave attention and feed off the idea that the "liberal media" is ruining this country? Our attitude is to not dignify their sophomoric points of view with a response.
The best way to effectively quiet a movement is to ignore it.
Why don't we delete the comments? Because we also believe in freedom of speech. We're happy to let this site be a forum for healthy debate or for various points of view, just like we're happy to go to sleep at night secure in the knowledge that these bigots live a hate-filled, sad life.

Most fans do not like negative remarks about their favorite celeb. - especially when the facts are twisted to get readers. That probably is true for all fans of all stars - not just fans of Adam Lambert. Just expect to be quickly reprimanded by Adam's fans.

Interesting that you choose to issue a reprimand to Lambert's fans but give a pass to the extraordinary homophobia that is present in the comments about him on your site.

Haha, the reason a lot of Adam fans treat him like a child is because they're old enough to be his mom! I am one of those fans. I've never been so captured by someone before. Adam Lambert is kind, intelligent, sexy, funny and he has the most incredible voice I've EVER heard. So please excuse me for being sensitive when it comes to Adam because I do look at him as a son :)

So, wait, you're going to write a second article criticizing over- zealous Lambert fans, but you're going to write off all of the really horrible homophobic comments on your article as "not catering" to them? What an amazing stand you're taking to stop the horrible wave of zealous Lambert defending! Or, rather, you just know where your hits come from (and, hey, kudos for a job well done--I'm here commenting, aren't I?). Get off your non-existent moral high ground, you're a gossip blog. You want to make a stand, do it against something that really matters, like all the homophobia your site hosted in the comments section of the last Lambert article.

It's not so much your article it's the hatred and homophoebia that it brings to the surface in the comments we see. Those can hurt his career. The reason Adam Lambert fans are so defensive is that there ARE ugly, hateful people out there looking for any excuse to bring him down. I think you can understand this is where the defensiveness comes from. If anyone other than Adam had made these comments, I guarantee it wouldn't be a big deal. But there are those who follow Adam online with great contempt and hatred just waiting to spew. That is what is so objectionable and while your article in intelf is not the problem, it draws this ugliness to the surface in the comments we see. And it colors people's perceptions of him who aren't familiar with him yet. Unfortunate.

And you know damn well that Adam is being crucified and vilified for this as we speak - he is NEVER treated as other artists are treated. So don't act like this is all just part of the package. There is very real HATE being thrown at him over this. Other articles have over 2000 comments, most of them beyond nasty and actually quite horrifying. Anytime he says something even remotely controversial is is used as an excuse to attack and bash and hate and vilify him. It sickens me.
And you wonder why we are defensive??
And now he is on the front page of Yahoo. If you really want to see the depth of hate and nastiness spewed at Adam, go read the comments there.
And oh yeah...get over yourself.

Good article. I'm a 55 year old mom and I do feel very protective of Adam. Not sure why that is, but I've noticed that no matter the age, we Adam fans feel that way. He has such a good heart, I guess we don't want his feelings to be hurt.
