Catholic League President: Jesus Was Totally Not Gay, Elton John is Ignorant and Intolerant
On one hand, according to his new interview with Parade, Elton John does not want to be a celebrity anymore.
On the other hand, the singer guaranteed himself headlines when he took the controversial stance that Jesus Christ was gay. He also referred to the Son of God as "super-intelligent," two remarks that have elicited a response from Catholic League President Bill Donohue.
He's released a statement that reads:
Jesus was certainly compassionate, but to say He was “super-intelligent” is to compare the Son of God to a successful game-show contestant. More seriously, to call Jesus a homosexual is to label Him a sexual deviant.
But what else would we expect from a man who previously said, “From my point of view, I would ban religion completely.”
We’re not sure what’s worse—John’s ignorance or intolerance. In any event, if we thought we could persuade him to issue an apology, we would try. But given his recidivism, we won’t even bother to ask. One thing is clear: someone needs to straighten John out.
What do you think of Donohue's retort? Too harsh, not enough or dead on?

People are discussing policy because the comments made would incite violence against an individual on the basis of his gay sexual orientation. Because a Catholic official made the statements, the discussion is about Catholic policy to gay people. Your comments are both ranting and confused. It's unclear what you're talking about. No-one here is referencing Jesus but you.

Woah! So tell me, gay people are always right and the catholic church is always wrong; does that some up your argument in defence of the notion that Jesus was a homosexual? And about the paedophile priest thing, tell me - the six men who sexually assualted me in my twenties and thirties, they couldn't be sexually aggressive and predatory gay men, they'ed be priests in mufti, right? And the 80% of paecophile priests who sexually assaulted adolescant boys 13-16, they just couldn't tell the difference between a willy and a chuff? Pots and kettles. Homosexuality isn't a sin, by the way. Agressively embracing spite is. Good luck with the growing up thing.

The Catholic church calls a gay man intolerant. Hilarity ensues.

Uh-Huh. What about the rampant ignorance and intolerance from the catholic church? Oh wait! I forgot they consider themselves superior and therefore have the blessing from the ONE god to live in hypocrisy. Sarah Silverman, God bless her jewish soul, suggested that to end world hunger all you had to do was sell the vatican. I think that's a brilliant idea.
What I find most commical, is that with all the judgment that is placed on Homosexuals, very rarely do they focus that attention on the hordes of children who have become victims of the same 'sexual deviance' they so vehemently oppose.
I can't wait for the time when:
Gay people will be the majority and Catholisism will be the least popular belief system to a

Based on Jesus' teachings of compassion and love, I don't think he would care the least if anyone considered him Gay,Black,Rich,Poor,Asian,Indian, or French ... Who cares! It's probably flattering to have someone believe you are part of who they are! Jesus cared about bringing people together to help each other.
The only time Jesus got really upset, was when his father's temples were being used by money changers and merchants. I believe the Catholic Church need to review this, and their "absolutely fabulous" Vatican City and Pope, before they start throwing stones! They pour OBSCENE amounts of money and energy to stop two people born differently from sharing equal rights. Money that could feed thousands... HYPOCRITES! What one sows, so shall they reap! I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't really embrace hypocrites ... though he did go down into the den of Lepers ... there may still be hope for the Catholics.

It's hardly news that Donohue is not fond of gays. Find a quote where he says something nice about somebody. Now that will be news!

Merewyn,
Not sure "how long ago" you were "raised a Catholic", but it is certainly obvious in your statement (and I say this lovingly) you either forgot or do not understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church in general. Also, the "Universal" or "Catholic" Church has it's roots from Peter. The Tradition of the Catholic Church obviously was in existence before the Holy Scriptures were written. There is NO gay bashing here. Love the sinner, but hate the sin. If you do not like the reference, check out Scriptures yourself. Your issue is with God Himself.

Nothing like the pot calling the kettle black. It's the Catholic priests who prey on little boys who need straightening out. Just take a look at Ireland and all the other countries where the Catholic Bishops and other higher-ups protected and covered up priests molesting young lads in their flock. Its too bad that they don't follow their own teachings.

That puts a funny pic in my head...a "straightened" Elton.....Elton is one of the most flamboyant jerks in the world, the idea of him getting straight (even his facts) is far from possible...he is an idiot
