yes of course PR has a lot to do with it...
but i think it does set a good example to the public that these people everyone seems to be so obsessed with are trying to help others in need and do good...even though it is completely self serving and not necessarily the best way to help.
people like angelina and brad have made it 'cool' for celebs to do this sort of thing...as much as i have issue with throwing money at problems, i still think its much better than them wasting their time at a fashion show or gala event giving themselves awards

i do have to say, that even though i know several of them have donated large sums of money...like jen aniston giving 500grand to the cause, i think if the panel of people on that special telethon thing pooled their own money they could solve many problems instantly.

the truth is that if these people really cared, they could give much more than they do, its all PR and tax write offs really.
and brad and angelina just followed in the foots

People, or should I say "celebrities" would rather help someone from another country instead of their "own" because it give them more exposure. They don't care about Haiti...They're only doing it to make themselves look good and sell their image.

    i am canadian :)
technically i am also an American...north american that is. =D

Minnesota brings up a very valid point

not just homeless veterans though, but also people suffering from poverty, abuse, illness etc.
there is much despair in the usa and canada that needs attention...but for some reason it makes us feel better to ignore what is in our backyard and focus on something else farther away, throw some money at it, and sleep well at night.
in the words of jim morrison/the doors, people are strange.
you would think we would want to help our mentally ill, or the starving, or drug addicted, or sexually abused...or the people who have served in your military.
nothing in this world really makes sense.

I totally agree with David, Dodgerdog and Minnesota. It's good to see some thoughtful and concerned Americans out there instead of sheep whose logic is brought upon by assumption.

When was the last time all these celebrities held a "raise money for homeless veterans" telethon? I don't think I've ever seen it, but we can do it for people who lie, cheat, steal, etc...? Celebrities are really messed up and it makes me sick that people actualy worship someone just because their face is on the T.V.

your moms a numbskull he was a freakin journeyman and he is right

  10. Dodgerdog

He is soooooo correct, but I too am torn between trying to help those who truly can't and not helping due to overall corruption and drug abuse and sales.
I wish we could help in a manner that is not necessaritly giving them just money to do what they need to, or not, do.
I wish we could give them food direct, like I insist on doing for the homeless on the corner, not more cash!!!
A number 3 with a cloke at MickyD's is better than giving some one a $5.00 bill, in my humble and at times torn opinion.
    dgd...

well, i agree with his questioning of where the money goes, and what it goes to...
it seems that there is definitely an inability for haitians to manage their country well enough, despite lots of funding from other countries. Corruption in poorer countries is usually to blame...in my opinion, until the corruption is driven out, and the people of the country take a stand...not much will change no matter how much money you throw at the problem.
poorer countries are that way for a reason. money doesnt fix the problem, period. anyone who has looked into these situations knows this.
What is needed is education, and change from the people of the nation in question.
I won't donate money because you never know where it will go. there have been many instances where celebs have donated money and time to charities and the public has followed suit, only to discover that no one was making sure the money was accounted for and went to appropriate places. After a short while people forget, go on

    Alux: Paul Shirly makes millions????

What is truly sad is your assumption that a freelance writer makes millions.

  13. Hellion

I actually don't agree with this man, it is our obligation to help those in need. However, annually the US already gives hundreds of millions of dollars to help Haiti and it has always gone for nothing but corruption.

Haiti is the size of Massachusetts. Our country alone has already donated nearly 2 billion dollars. My question is when is enough? How much money does it really take?

Lizz: No offense but a condom doesn't exactly take a lot of education to use one. It's a piece of rubber that a man puts on his penis. If someone knows how to put a shirt on they should be able to put a condom on.

  14. Alux

Idiot. Sad how people as ignorant as this loser make tons of money where they could actually help or do something effective.

Actually more sad that stupid people actually pay this numbskull millions.

    lol@america

So he's blaming a poor country for its inability to respond to a 7.0 earthquake? That's very sound thinking. Hey, shit happens!
