Jay Leno Plays the Victim, Admits to Lying, Sucks as a Human Being

by at . Comments

We always knew Jay Leno wasn't funny. But who knew he was such a whining, lying manipulator?

Days after Conan O'Brien officially left NBC, and Leno reclaimed The Tonight Show hosting gig, Jay appeared with Oprah Winfrey to try and rehabilitate his image. It's safe to say he failed... miserably.

In a series of responses, - each more damaging than the previous one - Leno said he hasn't spoken to O'Brien; admits to lying to viewers a few years ago; and acts as though he's somehow the victim in this late-night mess. A few excerpts:

On being replaced by O'Brien: "It broke my heart, it really did. I was devastated."

On telling viewers in 2004 than he was going to retire: "I told a little white lie on the air. It made it easier that way."

On the new program's failure: "The show failed because it was basically doing a late-night talk show at 10 o'clock. I was given enough time. I got fired this time because my show did not perform." (THG note: you did not get fired, Jay. You got promoted! Conan got fired.)

On accepting a 10 p.m. time slot to save jobs at his show: "You say to the 170 people who work here, ‘Listen, I don’t want to get my reputation ruined, I don’t want anyone talking bad about me. I’ve got enough money. You people can all fend for yourself." (What about the hundreds of jobs that were lost at the 10 p.m. scripted shows NBC canceled to set you up, Jay?)

On Jimmy Kimmel's skewering of him: "I got sucker-punched... I walked into it. [But] you don't whine and complain." (Until now, apparently.)

On Conan's cancellation: "It all comes down to numbers in show business. If the numbers had been there, this wouldn't have happened." (No way your terrible showing as a lead-in played a role, right Jay?)

Leno concluded the interview by saying he hopes Conan gets a new job as a competitor and "the best man wins."

Sorry, Jay, but future ratings (as a result of viewers that appreciate a lack of wit and creativity) does not make one a good man. Showing class and an ounce of humility would have done the job, but it's too late for that.

It's unbelievable just how stupid some people can be, reading some of this idiocy. The MAIN fact here is that if Jay Leno had been successful in his new time slot, NONE of this would have ever happened. This didn't happen because Conan's ratings were low. Jay said it himself. This was all brought about because the affiliates were NOT happy with Jay's performance. Look - every Tonight Show host started out with low ratings. Johnny Carson wasn't #1 the day he took over and neither was Jay when he took it from Johnny. So if Jay was successful at his new timeslot, NONE OF THIS HAPPENS! Conan gets more than a couple of months to build his new audience and they aren't looking for ways to make The Chin happy. Yes, it really is that simple people. Jay is the one who failed. Bottom line.

know what...i didnt like jay before and dont like him eve more, now...he is a old fuddy duddy

Sucker punched??
That's the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Isn't he supposed to be a comic?
If Jay Leno was a GOOD comic, he would've come back with witty retorts.
He doesn't know how haha

I never liked Leno. I've watched Conan for years, and he was always funnier to me. Leno's jokes were dull and seemed tailored for senior citizens. That's my vote, always has been.

I like BOTH Jay and Conan. Jay is for an older audience. Young people adore Conan (now better known as Coco). I think they will both do great. As for Letterman, that man is pure trash. What kind of person takes their lover with them on their family's vacation? She was hanging out with his wife and kid! The only reason he has good ratings is that he's been on forever and all these old people keep watching him faithfully.

Everyone agrees NBC was the most wrong in this situation. That network is an absolute joke... but Leno lied about retiring?? He came across AWFUL in this interview. no remorse, no acceptance for the role he played in the mess going back to 2004. He also lied again: he said Conan turned down 12:05 and THEN Jay took 11:35 back over.
That's not what happened. Conan was shoved out after seven months - all Leno supporters should go check Leno's ratings after seven months, go check Seinfeld's - and asked to change history by moving The Tonight Show to... TOMORROW at 12:05. What a slap in the face!
Leno is utterly classless.

We took a poll, Terry: http://www.thehollywoodgossip.... Conan is beating Leno 65% to 35%. Go vote if you wanna change this!

Apologies for the typo ~ * these ... The honorable quiet manner in which he accepted * these * changes ...

Jay Leno IS the Tonight Show. Your headline is rude and immature. Take a poll, Leno will be favored 2 to 1. Blame NBC.

Conan sucks as either human or alien. He sucks even more as a comedian. Get off Jay's back, baby whiny losers. Just can't stand it that your fairy princess Caca got canned. Boo-hoo. That's the real world, you cretins. Suck at your job, lose your job. End of story.
