Artie Lange Suicide Attempt Alleged By Page Six

The New York Post's Page Six is reporting this morning that the abrupt hospitalization of Artie Lange last weekend came after a suicide attempt.

Lange, a comedian and Howard Stern sidekick, has not spoken publicly since. Stern alluded to, but did not read the Page Six report Thursday.

From the report, posted early this morning:

"Troubled comic Artie Lange was hospitalized Saturday after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt, sources told The Post."

"Lange's frantic mom called 911 Saturday morning after she entered his Hoboken apartment and found the bloodied funnyman, a law-enforcement source said."

"Lange sustained six 'hesitation wounds' and three deep plunges."

"A source close to Lange's management team confirmed that the Howard Stern sidekick stabbed himself, adding that his mom had come to visit him that day to drop off food. Surgeons managed to save Lange despite heavy bleeding."

At first, an obviously shaken-up Stern said he would read the Artie Lange story, then changed his mind several times before deciding not to.

"I'm sorry. I just feel sick about this, I don't know what to do," he said.

Stern talked about the troubled Lange for about 15 minutes. He referred to Lange's troubles with substance abuse (the cause of his absence from the show since early December) and reminisced about his early appearances on the show.

At times, Howard Stern almost sounded like he was eulogizing his sidekick, which he realized, adding, "I don't want this to sound like a eulogy."

Get well soon, Artie.

Bill.... I guess your comments explain why Robin, Fred, and Gary weren't able to stay with the show very long. It was too much poison for them. GET REAL! Obviously Artie's day job did not cause his deep-rooted problem.

Do the world a favor. Go into the kitchen, get a knife, and start stabbing yourself.
I hope you have more success than Artie did.

Artie is a true "Funnyman" and super talented, as well as an honest and generous person. If you say anythihg bad about him, you don't know what us listeners know, which is that he cares about others more than himself. God Bless Artie.

i agree with howard. leave artie and his family alone and some things sould be left out of the news. shame on who ever let the news out. i hope artie and his family the best and howard, you a great guy for choosing the words you have said threw out this time. you have great style and not such a bad guy after

I liked Jackie better, oil and vinigar is not the same as vinagret, stand tall Artie you won.

Artie no girl is worth stabbing yourself buddy.iam sry I missed you the last time I was in town. Get better and we'll go get some tush together like the old days

Hey Anna and Bill...Artie had a drug problems years before he started on the Stern Show. Blaming Stern for Artie's issues is pretty stupid. Part of recovery off of drugs is consistancy and support...which is what he needed and got from his co-workers on the stern show...Another thing you did not pick up on his that Artie made this sucide attempt weeks after he was off the show. Your opinion that this is Howard Stern fault falls flat.

I love Artie and I lover Howard. I've listened to Howard since his first days in NY. Artie was, and hopefully will continue to be, a major contributor to the show. The man opened his heart in a book and let the world know his deepest troubles. He is a good human and I am shocked, and deeply saddened that this happened. The only good I can find in this is that Artie may finally receive the help he actually needs. I am so thankful that we are not saying good bye to Artie, but instead, hello to an Artie that will soon know how much people love him.

Bills comment is wrong what a dick

I love listening to Artie on Howard, and Hope nothing but the best for him and his family. We all have issues and some of us has though about suicide so I feel for him. Don't judge, your no better or worse! (Anna)
