Sarah Palin: Newsweek Cover is Sexist!

For the second time since Sarah Palin stepped into the national political spotlight, a photo of her on the cover of Newsweek is sparking controversy.

Palin herself blasted the "out-of-context" cover as "sexist" on Facebook.

Originally published in the August 2009 issue of Runners World, the photo of Palin features the former Alaska governor in short runner's shorts.

Palin took issue with Newsweek using a photo from an article about fitness to promote an analysis piece contemplating her relevance in politics.

"The cover photo choice for this week's issue of Newsweek is unfortunate. With Sarah Palin, this 'news' magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant," the Going Rogue author's spokeswoman wrote.

Newsweek Cover of Sarah Palin

"The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention."

Newsweek editor Jon Meacham said the photo choice was simply the "most interesting image available" to "illustrate the theme of the cover."

The cover flap isn't the first for Newsweek and Sarah Palin pictures.

The October 13, 2008, issue featured an extreme close-up of her that she said was totally re-touching free and designed to highlight her flaws.

What do you think? Is Newsweek trying to sabotage her as a dope just because she's a conservative? Or is the cover a shrewd and accurate portrayal of just how far this particular politician is willing to travel on the road of self promotion?

Could you cite some evidence and explain the metaphor? Otherwise, you're short on credibility and long on non-sequitur. I know it's a gossip site but you sound a little more earnest than that.

And that 'pin-up politician' statement ........ maybe, but she's got nothing on our photo-op POTUS.

Srsly nobody can take Palin as anything but a "pin-up politician" she has been exposed for the idiot that she is with a very backwards view of today's world.

Anyone who thinks that religion should be taught in place of science is just as bad as the Pope and his minions in the dark ages for persecuting scientists as heretics. Hurr the Earth revolves around Jesus's left testicle not the sun.

Don't bother arguing with libs. They are not capable or reason. They are to be fought and defeated. Period!! Sarah Palin is going to help us defeat them.

She does'nt need anyone to make her look bad not this cover, not her book, not anything because she is a shitty mother,a shitty Governer,an animal murderer, and an ignorant twit. Most people know this already so women need to realize this and quit sticking up for her because she is a woman.

If it's sexist, then I'm sexist; she looks great! And how does Newsweek or anyone else keep a straight face while telling me that she's 'a problem?' I understand that the GOP has a problem with her because she doesn't work in their machine. And the Democrats are scared to death of her because the truth is, whatever faults she might have, the public is painfully aware of the fact that she would have made a much better president than the one we elected. The obvious question is 'what could/would she have done that could possibly be any worse than what Obama has done?' I imagine that Newsweek wishes like hell that they had the circulation to match the best-selling books of a few articulate, conservative women (e.g. Palin, Coulter, Malkin) - all of whom are easy to look at and make cogent arguments. So, Newsweek fights ideas with the only thing they have to work with - image. And the best they can do is tell me that a former governor, best-selling author, and political spokeswoman wh

Oh, and a tip for those "journalists" that are trying to get dirt on Sarah Palin, disgusting sleezebags who will say anything to get publicity so he can break into the porn industry are not a reliable source.

  7. redpens

Newsweak put this picture on their cover to demean Sarah Palin. Why don't they try the same kind of picture of Michelle Obama and see how far they get with that? The zombie media (NBC, MSDNC, CNN, Newsweak, etc) is so afraid of her, that's why they try to demean her. Newsweak is a sexist magazine.

  8. sick of it

Its disgusting that Newsweek had the audacity to use this picture as a cover just to make her look bad. They would never do this to a male political figure liberal or conservative and especially not for a cover portrait! It is just rude and disrespectful on their part and makes me question their legitimacy as a publication.I'm so sick of the all the media outlets using such dirty tactics to try to push their stupid political agendas on people. Why don't you try doing your job instead of taking the low road all the time just to get a story, real stories occur when you actually start doing some investigative reporting, idiots.

  9. ME

SEXIST? Please, give me a break. Those shorts aren't even that short. She looks like a regular runner of her age.

BTW Troll alert...you just made my point about how stupid the liberals are...when one steps in with blatant truth, you try to attack physically and draw attention away from the facts....like, the fact that you have no idea how I look, yet...your insist on trying to degrade me...lol....that, my mentally challenged friend, is crazy....
