Old School Lady Gaga: Singer Dazzles at NYU
On Gossip Girl this week, Lady Gaga performed at NYU after helping Dan, Vanessa and Blair put together a uniquely bizarre Snow White/Gaga-themed musical.
A big reason Gossip Girl was able to score the pop star? Before she became Lady Gaga, Stefani Germanotta herself studied at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Footage has been unearthed of her performing at a talent show at the school back in 2005, and it definitely puts to rest any doubts about the singer's talent.
Okay, all the bizarre Lady Gaga pictures, rumors and costumes may boost her persona, but this girl is a heck of a musician beneath the bombastic facade.
Below, she performs two songs, "Captivated" and "Electric Kiss," providing her own piano accompaniment, and even drawing a comparison to ... Nora Jones.

I agree, Sara. I find her SOOOOO much more appealing and interesting in this video than I do when she's all coated in her little bizarre gimmicks. I even think her music is FAR better here. The gimmicks make people think her music isn't worth listening to because she tries too hard. Her appearance with Madonna on SNL was just sad and uncomfortable - two people trying to use eachother for their relevance. I agree, too, that she looks way older than her years. Wish she was confident enough to let her music and natural beauty speak for themselves.

I can't believe Lady Gaga is only 23. I'm a huge fan of hers, but by all the costumes she puts herself in and that funky makeup, she looks more like she's in her 30's. Her talent in this video is amazing. I wish that she would just come out looking fresh-faced and natural like she is in this video. Her voice here is like raw talent.
