Michael Jackson Releases New ... Poem

The new Michael Jackson album This It It, a 20-track, two-CD set accompanying the release of the movie of the same name, features one of his poems, "Planet Earth."

His poetry is a call to environmental awareness, according to James Bearden, the music supervisor of Jackson's This Is It tour, who told MTV about the singer's theme:

"[Jackson] wanted the world to know this may be it when it came to seeing him tour, and if we don't start paying attention to the world, it will be it for the Earth too."

He's one of the biggest music stars ever, but can MJ hack it as a poet?

Critical reaction to Jackson's prose has been mixed, but generally positive.

It has been called everything from "unsophisticated but poignant" (Globe and Mail) to "hokey at times, but there is a childlike quality that emerges after a few listens" (New York Post) to "vapid" (Toronto Star) and "consider yourself warned" (Time).

Follow the jump to read Michael Jackson's poetry in its entirety:

Planet Earth, my home, my place
A capricious anomaly in the sea of space
Planet Earth, are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spaceship, a large asteroid

Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my sweetheart, soft and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes, caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.

In my veins I've felt the mystery
Of corridors of time, books of history
Life songs of ages throbbing in my blood
Have danced the rhythm of the tide and flood
Your misty clouds, your electric storm

Were turbulent tempests in my own form
I've licked the salt, the bitter, the sweet
Of every encounter, of passion, of heat
Your riotous color, your fragrance, your taste
Have thrilled my senses beyond all haste

In your beauty I've known the how
Of timeless bliss, this moment of now.

Planet Earth, are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spaceship, a large asteroid

Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my sweetheart, soft and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes, caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.

Planet Earth, gentle and blue
With all my heart, I love you

i truely beleive that Micheal Jackson had a heart of gold and should be remembered for all the years of hard work he did to entertain millions of people worldwide, he gave us his all and what do people like you do, but trash him. whether you loved him or hated him no one can take away his artist ability and gift he had. He was a child at heart and would not have hurt a fly. I have seen the film now 10 times and if you watched it you could see for yourself that he was a hunble man of God and would do anything to take away the pressures of life and was trying to make us aware of the damage we are doing to this world, he loved life and people,. He could relate to children because of his upbringing, Remember he was only a child himself when he hit the limelight. Can you imagine what that would do to you. Micheal Jackson needs to of been repected instead of having people like you put him down. When you write these things about him remember he was a DAD AND A LOVELY FATHER DESPITE HAVIN A DE

WOW, His poem is beautiful. To hear his voice, so soft and strong, just warms my heart. It's a shame not all can look past their own inconsistencies and faults, and just enjoy his words for what they are. Love, PURE love for all of us.

This guy should be in jail. He and his family.
Michael was very special. That's why God took him! Let's let him rest in God's peace!

To Hellion: You are exacting what's wrong with the world. You are vicious and a liar. This is 2009 B--ch. Michael was found innocent in a court of law with overwhelming evidence that had 10 counts dismissed. STOP going on sites passing around your character assassinations of Michael Jackson. HATER!!!

SEROUSLY, you are freakin rude to. DO YOU KNOW ANY OF THE JACKSONS AT ALL? Stop judging them.. Leave judgement up to God. I think you have that all wrong they all love Michael and I really think you are wrong so stop starting problems..

  9. skipabeat

STOP CALLING HIM WAHKO JACKKO TO!!! I hate that it really ticks me off! Do you think that he is not a human being, or do you just enjoy dehuminizing people? Would you want to be treated that way? Micaheal loves all children, but because his heart is so big, and because he is so childlike or did you not know that he was to busy entertaning people like us he did not have time to have a childhood. You can look in those eyes and see such a true genuine innscence. After all the mud being slung on him by people like you! He was good to everybody and he would give you the shirt off his back and you are gonna call him so nasty! WOW, you are not nice at all! GO LOOK IN THE MIRROR, you need help!
