American Idol Finalists (Mostly) Support Adam Lambert
In light of his controversial American Music Awards performance, and subsequent ban from Good Morning America, Adam Lambert is receiving support from past American Idol contestants.
With one major exception.
We'll get to that shortly, but first a look at what those in Lambert's corner have to say...
Kevin Covais: "I honestly had no problem with Adam's AMA performance. After watching him take risks on Idol, it was about what I expected. Despite being a bit risque, I don't feel like it pushed the envelope that much further from what we normally see these days, especially on primetime television. I see no reason why he should be punished by ABC."
Jim Verraros: "[Gays] need this, and we need him. We need to have him out there - he's a gay pop singer from America. But I am torn - I don't know if I would have done that kind of performance for my first nationally televised show. I think had he done it at a more intimate club environment, it would have gone over a lot better."
Diana DeGarmo: "It should help out his career... with all of the buzz around the performance, his sales shouldn't suffer whatsoever."
Season three contestant Jon Peter Lewis takes a harsh view of Lambert, however. He told Us Weekly:
"All this nonsense about Adam Lambert's whole project being art is bogus. That idea is absurd. It's like calling Thomas Kinkade art. What a sham."
Hmmm... Kinkade is a painter. Media Arts, a publicly-traded company that licenses and sells his products, reports that 1 in 20 homes in the U.S. features some form of the man's art.
So it's unclear what point Lewis is making. If he, or any Lambert critic, is suggesting that Adam's performance might turn some people off, no one (including Lambert himself) would disagree.
But is a singer's job to satisfy the masses? Or to remain true to himself? Sounds like a debate for THG readers! Have at it in our comments section!

Hey G, Talk about vulgar, how about Cougar Town, once again it is ok for ABC to air shows that allow us to see and older women going down on a younger man while her teenage son walks in, Gray's Anatomy female on female kiss, Borther and Sisters male on male kiss, and YOU CAN CHANGE THE DAMN CHANNEL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT AND BY THE WAY... I AM A CHRISTIAN WOMEN NOT A LIBERAL. It was a bad performance but forgive and forget, listen to his cd and tell me he can't sing. This young man has a beautiful voice, it is mesmerizing. Broken Open and Soaked,he really should have done one of thoes songs but Adam will be Adam and that is ok. I googled his video and it hit 1,000.000.000 mark yep billion. I guess bad or good you know who he is now!!!! Still will follow him, If you don't like him GO AWAY!!! no one is making you watch.

It's no wonder other countries laugh at the USA! This is being made a big deal just because he is a gay man. AMA's and other award shows always have raunch, sex, and push the envelope. There is a rediculous double standard in the USA. Once again we are making fools out of ourselves in front of the world.

Love Adam. Ordinary music makes us comfortable, great music pushes the boundaries. Controversy always accompanies greatness. It is amazing to see just how many people are taking time out of their lives to criticize Adam Lambert. I love it, keep talking--it affirms that change is taking place through music again.

Cool performance, he knows exactly what he's doing. All the hoopla is just giving him more press and sales. Just face it - he isn't doing ANYTHING Madonna, Cher, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and loads of other artists haven't done before.
He is very openly gay though. Of course it will offend hoards of narrow minded people. But hey. If you don't like it - don't watch it.

Adam Lambert represents the USA...hahahah
Stupid display, the kiss was not a big deal, you are just a copy cat, but that man on your "ding dong", you are nuts and cross. I do not like your singing or your dancing and wished someone else won "American Idol"....
I have no problem with people's sexual orientation, but hey Lambert, this is not 'Art' it is plain 'disgusting' and you are no "Madonna" ( also she is getting a little old for this kind of stuff creating a " yikes" factor as well ).

Adam Lambert has signficant vocal and entertainment skills, he proved that with Idol. What people may have missed is that Adam Lambert is a very shrewd businessman, operating in an extremely frenetic business. He does nothing without thinking, calculating and planning. The performance was edgy no doubt, but I've seen more blatant sexuality in recent comedy movies. Right now, everyone is talking (clucking) about him, whether to praise or criticize, and his album sales just jumped which is exactly what he and his business team projected. I am not critical, just pragmatic. I admire his talent, but I also admire his ability to use his thinking cap. A skill most Americans lost long ago.
