Taco Hell: Bob Griese Suspended By ESPN

by at . Comments

ESPN college football analyst and NFL Hall of Famer Bob Griese was suspended one week by ESPN after an off-color remark about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

This is not the week to work at ESPN. First, an affair with a crazy production assistant got baseball analyst Steve Phillips fired. Now Bob Griese gets a temporary boot.

The comment in question? During Saturday’s Ohio State-Minnesota game, ESPN ran a NASCAR graphic and co-analyst Chris Spielman wondered where Montoya was.

As his name was not in the Top Five in points standings, Griese mused that Montoya was “out having a taco.” Mmm. Not how to reach out to a key demographic.

We don't expect Juan Pablo Montoya will be inviting Bob Griese over for tacos anytime soon. The guy may not even like tacos. And they both work on weekends.

He apologized twice during the broadcast and ESPN issued a release disapproving of his comment. We're guessing that the disapproval was not because Montoya is from Colombia, whereas tacos are generally considered to be Mexican.

Luckily for Bob, he got off with just a one-week slap on the wrist. Note to analysts: Jokes with an ethnic bent, regardless of your intent, don't generally play well.

BIG DEAL! Laugh, go on and get over it! Too much "sensitivity" -this is America where there is freedom of speech - at least for some people!

Agreed. ENOUGH of the poliitcal sensitivity. This is a complete non-issue. At this rate I'm gonna start calling reverse discrimination..........gee, that would do everyone alot of good. This sort of political sensitivity needs to be stamped out and these whiny-sensitive types need to be held accountable. Enough already!!

Please, Please, So what, he may have been eating a taco, so what?,our American society needs to lighten up. I am an American, Third generation of latin decent (Spanish predominently and Mexican). I did not think twice of the comment. It seems like the darker your skin ethnicity the more the sensitivity issue. Our nation and society need to worry about many more prdominent social and national issues plaging our proud nation. ESPN I will no longer view you or patronize any of your sponsers. MY,AMERICA, please wake up and smell the Juan Valdez coffee beans! (does that make me racist?)

My boss recently asked me where one of my Caucasian co-workers was. I replied that maybe he was out getting a cheeseburger. I'm currently under suspension. Ouch!!

He's human and made a mistake.

Hey, he said it, and apologized twice, we over freakin analyze everything to the hilt! At least he didn't sleep with his 22 year old assistant.

Someone needs to put a new bend on this story. I mean, from now on it's not worth beans unless someone puts in some manual labor and finds a new angle to run it across the border.

Does anyone know what freedom of speech means, out eating a Taco, you people at ESPN are something, Hey, here's something 90% of the NFL is Black why isn't it called the Black NFL or the NBA is probably 90% Black, why isn't call Black NBA League. Now they want more black coaches. Unbelievable. I'm white, call me anything you like, but who cares, I got a German background, call me "brat" who cares, or whitie, who cares. Next at your stupid board meetings look around and see who's on it. HEY PEOPLE, WE DON'T CARE
p>s> I know who cares, a stupid lawyer.
