Stephanie Birkitt: On David Letterman, On the Late Show

by at . Comments

It's now public knowledge that David Letterman carried on an affair with a female staffer. The talk show host himself admitted this last night.

To her horror, that employee has now been identified as Stephanie Birkitt.

Considered one of Dave's most trusted staffers, Birkitt earned a degree from Wake Forest University in 1997; worked at 48 Hours upon graduation (where she first met Letterman's alleged extortioner, Robert Halderman); and joined the The Late Show months later.

She actually appeared on air at times, most notably in sketches such as“ Know Your Current Events,” as seen below. Fast forward to the 3:15 mark to watch Birkitt (referred to as "Vicki) interact with Dave and an audience member:

Reportedly, Stephanie developed a sexual relationship with Letterman that ended in 2003, prior to the birth of his son, Harry. She was living with Halderman at the time.

In 2004, in an interview with The Fort Worth Star Telegram, Birkitt said of her boss:

“He’s just playful. We play catch sometimes in the office, and we all go to screenings together. We eat food together, we sit around and watch TV together and goof on people. And he teases me in real life, too, but I give it back a lot more in real life.”

Opinions are flying in about David Letterman's dalliances with Stephanie Birkitt. What's yours?

Has anyone considered that Stephanie may have been the one that started this or is at least equally to blame? That is, if blame is even necessary. Things happen. Famous, powerful people have an attraction, and yes, they are human. Drop it. It is probably just to boost ratings anyway. Just ask Hugh Grant?

The whole situation is sad....but does anybody rem Bob Barker, he admitted to at least one affair with a employee( model) and was sued at least twice by other staffers for the enviroment he created....CBS didnt fire him.....My own simple opinion is when the word " Intern" is used...It implies a very young person...still an adult but young....Same with Clinton, other Pres had affairs , like FDR, Ike , JFK. etc. But the dreaded word intern wasnt attached..... I feel the same about Letterman... But doesnt anybody think its wrong why everyone doesnt hate the Blackmailer?

How appropriate Dave's production company is called Worldwide Pants... because his pants seem to be dropping worldwide!

ahahah LMFAaaaao.

Im your avid fan Mr Letterman until you confess what you did to your female staffs. they are the victims of your fame and money, work sexual harassment/where the law????????

perfect example of what's wrong with this nation. When people actually support this kind of thing. I gave up on letterman and the entire network news last Fall and this just supports my decision all the more.

Refreshing to see that these women are not claiming to have been "intimidated" by a "superior". Letterman was single, the women were adults and the sex was consentual. People date co-workers every day. How many couples met on the job - millions? This man is a comedian - not a politician, teacher, priest or anyone else who puts themselves up as a moral compass. Leave Dave alone.

I particularly enjoy the kneejerk labeling that comes with the territory of western-capitalistic hypocrisy: someone mentioned that Dave's a "womanizer." Well, let me assure you, as one poster stated that women will screw anything that makes more $$ than their current b/f, that I've encountered more than one man's share of "manizers." Women are beginning to catch on that they bear part of the responsibility in establishing and destroying relationships, so the labelers are as old as woolly mammoths and just as fossilized.

Yeah, you go, Dave (and Stephanie). They do make a nice couple, although too much emphasis is placed on marriage (in the West), so why ruin a great relationship with co-ownership and marriage's demon of power, control and domination. Europeans and South Americans have a healthy view of it all: everyone has a secret lover, everyone knows it, just don't bring it home, not one hint of it, ever. Otherwise, I Dave handled it brilliantly, kind of like Mel Gibson's character in "Ransom" putting the pressure on the real criminal.

Letterman, I think he is void of all humour other than political .
Hollywood actors..t.r.a.g.i.c.!!, . . Kiddies there do not know who their Fathers are, and their Mothers are not too sure either.
They identify their class by all the Tattoo`s they have.....
