Joe Wilson to Barack Obama: You Lie!
U.S. President Barack Obama was giving a speech to Congress Wednesday night about health care. Until Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina decided to interject.
Here's how the exchange (if you can call it that) went:
- Barack Obama: " ... There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false ... the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."
- Joe Wilson: "You lie!"
This is, truly, the classiest, most effective way to disagree with someone.
You might expect such a response to Obama's address to school children ... actually, no you wouldn't. Five-year-olds typically have better manners than this.
Perhaps it was a perfect storm of controversial topics helped evoke Wilson's bizarre, negative and universally-criticized outburst. It was the South Carolinan who had been reinforcing the belief that health care reform includes "Death Panels."
YOU LIE: Hopefully Joe Wilson doesn't subscribe to OK! Magazine. We imagine him calling them out when he opens the mail and sees every Robert Pattinson cover.
Wilson called it an "end-of-life counseling program, which has been highlighted by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a program which could lead to seniors being encouraged to seek less care to protect the government´s bottom line."
Minutes before Wilson's outburst, Obama's speech debunked that: "It's a lie, plain and simple," he said, which brought most of Congress to its collective feet.
After the speech, reaction to Wilson's remark was bipartisan.
Sen. John McCain, among many others, said the outburst was "totally disrespectful" and demanded that Rep. Wilson apologize to the president, which he did.

Joe Wilson: Cheap, country Christmas white trash.

Wilson states he doesn't need to apologize anymore, if that was an apology I'm afraid he doesn't have a heart. Second he owes an apology to the Institution that he shamed. What sets us aside from other country is our respect and dignity to our institutions, if we let him get away with this it will only get worse in the future. So if he truly loves his country he owes a true apology....

But Jeff there is a difference. Obama is a President where Bush was just an imbecile. Healh care was a campaign promise that Obama made. It was featured prominently in the election (certainly before the election). People who were very opposed to reform of health care didn't vote for Obama-- and yet he won.
Polls continue to show support for a "public option" from a majority of Americans.

Everyone is making Joe Wilson's "You Lie" out to be some horrible act. It is as if Obama is some kind of religious figure to some people. It's ridiculous. He shouted two words. Bush was heckled during his 2007 state of the union. This is not the first time it happened. But its the first time people are getting their underwear in a knot over it. Why?

Hah!!! Tie old Wilson up and give him 20 lashes. Then let him go and do whatever he wants to do. It might joggle some respect into him.

I was wondering how Rush Limbaugh would spin this incident. He might want to put Joe Wilson on Mount Rushmore. Perhaps republicans should stay out of politics all together and stick with watching Jerry Springer.

someone posted he should of stopped his speach and had wilson come up and prove, that would not happen on national tv because if you actually read the bill wilson is right. these are the debates they should be having in the congress. if he is not lying why did they shoot down a small bill to make sure illegals dont get my money.
