I hope that it brings hope to others who are experiencing any kind of incest or abuse, so that they know they are not alone.
Victims of incest do not speak up about it precisely because of the criticism and judgment they're afraid people will place on them. They are made to feel that it is their fault and that they should never tell.
This is why incest continues in so many families. People who are brave enough to come forward and share such experiences should be made to feel safe.
It's unfair to judge Mackenzie as an adult based on your own experiences of life. She had a very different upbringing to most children where the normal rules or boundaries that other children experience didn't apply.
A child who is neglected by their parents will already be facing issues, and one who was raped at 14 and using drugs would not have been capable of making rational decisions without receiving intense counseling.

It is sad because I can personally tell you that these men make you feel like there is nothing wrong going on and make you think that all other fathers do the same thing. I was only 14 when my father had sex with me. I also got into drugs but when I was 24 I met a man who helped me get sober but when we would get into fights he would throw it in my face about my father and tell me how disgusted he was to have sex with me because my own fatehrs privates had been in me. I stayed with him for 10 years. Now I have found freedom from all this by spiritual and psychological help. I hope she finds the same.

Chynna is actually Denny's child. Maybe Dad thought Mackenzie wasn't his daughter, too. Very sick.

I feel for her...but there are some things that need to stay private. What is she gaining from airing this dirty laundry? She needs counseling and serious prayer, but to drag her brothers and sisters through this is a shame.

wow - I cannot believe people! i do believe Mackenzie - people do not make these things up and if you ever wanted to meet dysfunction you would have known it just by meeting John, Mackenzie, or other close family. These people were acting under the influence of drugs and a 19-year-old is barely an adult. In her case she may have been "groomed" by her father John for years which I would not doubt and just because she was 19 did not mean she was out on her own and from under his influence - no one wakes up as a 18-year-old one day and is suddenly transformed into a strong responsible autonomous adult. People blaming the victim sicken me - blame the real adult here - John was the perpetrator of a crime and poor Mackenzie has been the victim of a dysfunctional family life and this sick relationship - she has every right to talk or write about it - it is her life - she has lived this nightmare. I pray for her, she has courage to face this and to go public - I pray good can come of her reve

I feel for Mackenzie Phillips. I think she is brave for speaking out. Also, she is mentally and emotionally degraded by her experience with her past. I SUPPORT HER!

Blame the victim is not appropriate, ever. In a case of incest, it is especially heinous. There are fundamental flaws of logic appearing here for those blaming the daughter.

oh my goodness, no wonder women dont tell and men continue. What an awful cycle. I'm telling you, theres always a method to this madness. Children are usually victims to unfortunate circumstances. There's always a root to "bad" behaviour and it always stems from childhood. Get it...........root...stems..they either blossom or wilt and wither away. Its sad........I'm sorry Mackenzie. Good for you to vomit this up. Hopefully you can start to heal.......peace be with you!

You say it was not her fault? Are you freaking kidding me? They're both at fault! She was heroin addict! Did anyone force feed her the drugs? NO!
She claims that the affair started when she was 19! She was an adult! And it was a consensual affair that went on for 10 years. If her allegations are true, then they're both sick! She shouldn't be going around trying to sell this book and claim to be an innocent victim. This is an insult to the other women out there who have actually been forced and threatened harm by molesters and forced into submission. Mackenzie, based on her own story was into this affair as a consenting individual.
If there's any victim here, it's the rest of the family who have been mercilessly drag into this one trashy mess.

MY GOODNESS, SOMEONE IS OPENING UP ABOUT SOME MAJOR STUFF. HOW DARE ANYONE PUT HER DOWN. IT WASN'T HER FAULT! ARE YOU KIDING ME? NO FATHER SHOULD EVER DO THAT, AND THEN PASS HER OFF TO OTHER MEN. GREAT FATHER! IT'S A WONDER THAT WOMAN HAS HAD SO MANY ISSUES. THERE'S ALOT OF WOMEN THAT I HAVE MET THAT DON'T GET HELP FOR MANY YEARS. THE REASON, BECAUSE OF THIS KIND OF RESPONSE. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE!

it almost sounds like you are a disgruntled friend or family member...
this is hardly the kind of thing one makes up overnight...
what a horrible sentiment to make, wishing her dead because she dared to speak of a personal experience she had.
you have serious issues, go seek help.

More I read it, telling her half-sister after 11 years, sounds like another hallucination. Mac is 49 and menapause is only adding to her obvious insanity.

What trash. (Mackenzie Phillips). 10 year affair, is just trash. Mutual drug use, I can see that...Screwin' her dad for 10 years, Macenzie is just as quilty as her old man if true (which I still doubt)...This is the second version of the same story SO who knows what we'll read tommorow eh?
The worst part is that Mac lays this shame on the rest of her family to gain publicity, true or not. Mac is no victim but her relatives are. It'd be better if MacKenzie Phillips took a big handful of pills and spared the Human Race her continued presence.
