Well, well, well... people get so heated over this Vampire Diaries vs. Twilight stuff. First of all, Vampire Diaries was written better, hands down. I think the character Elena is a better role model for girls (especially tweens) than Bella. I think girls just identify better with Bella because of insecurity issues. They lack confidence, etc. etc. I also think there could be some plagiarism here... Vampire Diaries... small town of Fell's Church. Twilight... small town of Forks. Vampire Diaries... "vegan" protagonist vampire. Twilight... the same. Then the scene in Vampire Diaries (the book) where Stefan first encounters Elena in class... and he was like just about to throw her down and suck all the blood out of her???? Twilight's scene with Edward and Bella was disturbingly alike. Coincidence or plagiarism??? In any case, I think it really sucks for LJ Smith that people think HER books are a knock off of Twilight. I think the timing was perfect for Twilight and VD is just taking the opportunity of the ''Vampires Brouhaha" !!
Personnaly, the only thing that is bothering me is everytime I watch VD I can't stop comparing & analyzing the acting vs Twilight. Other than that...If they are both successful it's all good !! Peace.

Twilight SUCKS, I can't stand to hear these tween girls say how "meaningful" and "beautiful" it was. Obviously you have zero taste and think a sparkling pedophile is hot. It really digusts me. Vampire Diaries on the other hand is entertaining, not the books I mean, the tv series.

Okay.... So you guys are all so lame... Twilight COPIED vampire diaries and plus vampire diares is soo much better.. I mean look at the actors and actresses they are SOOO much better at their parts... You have to admit Twilight... was CHEESY!! And its wayyy to overdone... and I mean look at the so called "Edward" compared to "Stefan". Stefan is SOOOOOO much hotter and nobody can disagree with that. Edward is way creepy looking... and NOT cute at ALL!! and now lets compare and contrast. "Bella" and "Elena" Elena is way pretty and everything Bella should've been but then their is the girl that plays bella in twilight... talk about man voice... and just stupid... ugh.. What the 'ell!! the Vampire Diaries was made in 1991!!! It is older than Twilight by 14 years!!!!! Twilight is a copy cat of the Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries is similar to The Twilight series yes. But they do have there differences. The biggest is the actual story line and plot(not to mention when they were made.)!! Twilight was written recently(2005) where-as The Vampire Diaries was written in 1991!!! If anything Twilight is the rip off!! And Twilight has vampires that sparkle in the sun. From what I remember on Vampyre lore that doesn’t happen. But in some lore vampires can go out in sunlight. Look at Bram Stokers Dracula.
And as a story writer myself, it is hard to write a story that has similarities with what you believe and what another author believes. But you just have to try your best. I personally love The Vampire Diaries books and Twilight. But I loathe the movie for it. But I will give the author props. It is hard to write a book about a being that can’t be proven to exist.
But all in all there are going to be book that have similarity’s with each other. Just read it, don’t complain, enjoy it, and le

seriously whats the big deal?--theres really no need to get so angry at other peoples opinions--- i have a degree in english lit and am well aquainted with all the classics as well as several genres in modern literature. I am a vampire addict and have been for many years --long before twilight and Vampire diaries, i was reading anne rice, bram stoker et al, but really i think if everyone just enjoys the books for what they are without getting too protective or obsessed thenm im sure they would apreciate them more --every person is never gonna have a robotic unified opinion on any subject---what a boring world we would live in if that were the case!!!! that said out of the two i defo prefer twilight--i dont know why-- it just hooked me more than vampire diaries--irellevant to which is the better series fundamentally--i just related to the character of bella more than elena.

twilight meaningful? If you honestly think that, then you have no concept of what is good literature, sweetheart. And just because a book isn't made into a movie does not mean that it isn't a fabulous book. I've read the vampire diaries as well as the twilight saga, and I have to say, I do not understand what Twilight's appeal is. It's completely lacking in conflict and character depth. I mean, congrats to SM for raking in the millions for it, but I will never understand what caused Twilight to become such a craze.
That being said, I think CW is definitely following the new vampire trend, but that's just business. They know what's going to sell. It's not Vampire Diaries looking for attention...the author doesn't go around trying to sell the books for a TV series. The network would approach the author with the idea that they wanted to make the series. So get YOUR facts straight, idiot, before you start accusing people of things you don't understand.

Well, i read the twilight series first; and i have to say; it disgusted me; it was okay; but terribly boring, and it was nothing compared to Vampire Diaries.
They have a lot of similarities; and people should know that the Vampire Diaries were published in the 90's so I'm very sure they aren't a knock off of Twilight. So, get your facts straight.
The Twilight series was one of the first books that I read; and somewhat liked. After that i decided to try more paranormal romance novels. Everyone was reading the Twilight Series so i believed it was a really good book; even though it fell flat on me.
I read Vampire Diaries and instantly fell in love with them. Much better than Twilight.
In the Twilight series Stephenie Meyer spends about a page describing how hot Edward looks =\ Then; its about how much Bella thinks shes ugly and how edward is so beautiful. Then; its those cheezy and ( Honestly ) boring make-out sessions where Bella faints =\

FYI: True Blood is based on a series by Charlaine Harries (the Sookie Stackhouse Series). It came out before Twilight and its better than twilight (even though i love twilight). I havent read the Vampire Diaries but i just might if its good enough to make into a show then it might be a good read.

You say that Stefan can't read minds. Thats not quite true. In Chapter 2 page 25 he can since thought and hear voices so your not correct that he and Edward are not a like.
And if you want some true Adult entertainment you need to check out True Blood on HBO now thats the stuff. You have blood, goor, sex and hummor.

Twilight the better of those two. I've read both book series and I JUST LOVE AND ADORE THE TWILIGHT ONES MORE. The Vampire Diaries ones were boring and I really didn't care what would happen to any of the characters.
