Jordan Scott Accuses Stephenie Meyer of Plagiarizing Breaking Dawn

by at . Comments

While Twilight was a hit, and the buzz over New Moon is off the charts, controversy over the final two films in the Twilight Saga continues to grow.

By now, most fans are familiar with the shady decision to replace Rachelle Lefevre in Eclipse with Bryce Dallas Howard. Go read more about it and let your opinion be heard.

Now, an author is taking Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer to court for allegedly stealing ideas for Breaking Dawn.

As first reported by TMZ, Jordan Scott sent a cease and desist letter to the book's publisher, stating the fourth installment in the franchise contains a "striking and substantial similarity" to Scott's book, "The Nocturne."

Scott says her novel was published in 2006; though, strangely, we can't find it on Amazon.com.

She claims that numerous scenes in the books are eerily similar, such as (Breaking Dawn spoiler alert!)...

  • Both contain a post-wedding sex scene;
  • Both depict a scene about a woman who's sick because she's carrying a child with "evil powers;"
  • Both focus on the death of the main character's wife.

In response, Meyer's rep wrote to TMZ: "The claim that 'Breaking Dawn' by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit. Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim."

Man. It was a lot more fun when the only breaking news about these movies/books involved the latest Robert Pattinson pictures.

It does not exist! Her website was created in 2009(recently) and is convienintly sold out of The Nocturne. None of the other book selling stites have any record of that book. Not even the Library of Congress has record of it! It is all a hoax! The Nocturne is not an actual book!

This is sooooo stupid!! This makes all of us(Twilight fans)not want to read Scott's books! Who would after that false accusation? I don't see how that could be classified as plaigarizing. It seems to me that Mrs.Scott only wants attention that is directed towards her books. Well,I don't know about ya'll,but no way will I ever be reading any of Scott's books!!

I so agree with JeSs. Whoever this Scott person is...You Suck!!! Get a life. Your book sucks, okay. Get over it. I support Stephenie Meyer completely.

All of you for one need to learn to form sentences. The twilight series is an overated piece of trash. I am a writer/reader and honestly found the series a waste of paper, the poor trees. Also Stephanie Meyer doesn't know jack shit about vampires or vampire folklore. All she got right is they feed off blood. Oh and for you twilight fan girls, vampires don't exiss. Sorry if you didn't get the memo.

Please!!! I have enjoyed over 50 years of reading, and I would love to understand how this woman thinks this is plagiarism! This is how I see it.. 1. How many people do you know of that do NOT have a post-wedding sex scene?? 2.I'm pretty sure that the end result of being bitten by a vampire IS death and 3.There was a little book written in 1970 that ALSO focused on the death of the main characters wife and was ALSO turned into a movie. That book was called Love Story by Erich Segal. This is just a classic case of lashing out at someone who did it better than she did.

This is direct towards :Kaileah Of the 4 you can name off the top of your head, are any of them real literature, or are they things comparable the twilight?

THIS IS RIDICULOUS! SCOTT IS JUST WANTING HER FAME AND IS JEALOUS OF STEPHENIE BEING THE POPULAR VAMPIRE SERIES AUTHOR THAT SHE IS! IT'S FUNNY HOW NOW ALL THE AUTHORS WHO WROTE VAMPIRE STORIES ARE COMING OUT THE CLOSET RIGHT AFTER TWILIGHT HIT THE EXPLOSION OF SUCCESS THAT IT HAS! WHO EVER THINKS STEPHENIE PLAGIARIZED, YOU SERIOUSLY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT!

I read through the comparisons between the two books presented by Scott's lawyer, and although she tries to scrounge up the best case she can, there really isn't anything that points to plagariasm. Mainly, the lawyer just takes excerpts from Scott's book and then randomly takes lines out of Meyer's without even considering the context. In one instance, he referred to Scott's main character's tendency to call his wife by the word "love" and compared it to Edward's tendency to call "Bella" love, which is ridiculous. How can you compare two things like that? There are probably tons of books out there that have done the same thing, but because Meyer is currently so popular, Scott needed to milk it for some of her own publicity. Ugh.

Seriously Breaking Dawn is the best book ever wrote If this Jordan Scott lady wants fame just like Stephenie then she should write a better book. Twilighters please do not give fame to this book because that is exactly what she wants!!

You can read the cease and desist letter, as well as the supposedly plagiarized passages side by side here: http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_docu... They are not the least bit similar
