Jon & Kate Plus Alimony. Jon & Kate Plus Deanna Hummel. Jon Minus 9. Jon Plus 8 Minus K8. Jon & Kate Separ8. Jon & Kate Plus Court D8 ...
Whatever you want to call the next phase of the popular TLC reality show in the wake of Jon and Kate Gosselin packing it in after 10 years of marriage, it's the remaining, adorable eight whom some experts worry about most.
"I'm sad to think their custody might be part of what we're observing on day-to-day basis," says Mary Cushing Doherty, a family law attorney in Norristown, Pa.
The question for a Pennsylvania court could be whether it's in the best interest of the children to have their lives broadcast as children of divorce - is that just too much emotional baggage for any minor to carry period, let alone on TV?
This means a court could order that the kids no longer can be on on TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8, which returns from its hiatus with new episodes August 3.
The network suspended filming on its top-rated program Tuesday to gloss over the fact that Jon and Kate split up allow the Gosselin family to "regroup."
Even if Jon and Kate Gosselin reach a private custody agreement, there's still a chance "the law will reach in and say, 'I think these kids need a child advocate because people have not been looking out for their interests,'" Doherty says.
TLC has said it "continues to support the family and will work with them to determine the best way to tell their story as they navigate through a difficult time."
Another thorny issue could involve splitting the estate, which isn't just about who gets the $1.3 million house Kate and Jon Gosselin live in with their brood.
Any assets acquired between the marriage and separation are Jon and Kate's together, so it's not as if one party earned them. Also, the question remains as to the content of their contract with TLC. What if ratings dwindle and they are canceled?
Yet another interesting issue is who's more likely to be the celebrity moving forward. Is she more likely going to have a steady stream of income, or is he?
Atypically for divorce proceedings, Kate did not request child support or alimony. The interesting thing is going to be whether Jon asks for financial help.
Should Jon & Kate Plus 8 even come back?

They should make it up for the sake of the children. It is for the best interest of all the 10 of them. Jon just don't argue with Kate and Kate just don't be bitchy. They both must learn to be discipline adults for the sake of the children. They can divorce after another 10 years. I know of a couple who did that after their children grew up and am capable of taking care of themselves. If they don't make up the divorce court should advocate and make sure that the children are taken care of financially. TLC should cooperate with the advocate to ensure the truth of how much they had earned so that the money is split evenly among the 10 of them. The money for the kids can go into their trust fund for college education and the rest for whatever! The show should end for it is too sad to watch and is not a good show for us, viewing public! Their is enough violence, saddness and pervert shows on TV and including a family show on with such real saddness is bad for the world. TLC exploits it should suffers the consequence of it too!

TO: Rent a reality. That is hilarious!!! Very funny and creative. As for this horrible reality show. If the courts don't end up stopping production, then we can.
People need to start writing letters (I have) to the sponsors of these shows and tell them to stop promoting and advertising on Jon and Kate.
I feel so sorry for the kids!

Maria Loi: Parents should NEVER stay together just for the kids. It's been made very clear neither Jon nor Kate wants counseling and there is no point in staying and continuing their contentious relationship in front of the kids. As for the money, it sure as heck BETTER be put in trust, as that is the law for child actors. Oh, wait! Kate says they aren't actors! Ooops, guess they'll have to spend all of the money.
