OK! Magazine Michael Jackson Cover Picture: Too Much?

by at . Comments

A photo of a dying Michael Jackson lying on a stretcher is the cover image on the latest edition of OK! Magazine, and is certain to elicit strong, mixed reactions.

The race is on to break the latest news on what may be the biggest celebrity gossip story ever, but do we really need to see "the last photos" of the pop icon?

OK! allegedly paid $500,000 for the cover picture you see below.

While covering Jackson's tragic death is unavoidable, would a tribute such as the commemorative covers released by Entertainment Weekly be more appropriate?

On the flip side, do you want to see all the details because you are interested in the story, even if the images of the dying Jackson happen to be upsetting?

What do you think of the picture on OK's "tribute" issue below? Is it disrespectful to Michael Jackson or are they just reporting the news? Tell us in our poll:

Michael Jackson OK! Cover

Did the magazine go too far with this Michael Jackson cover?

I'm sorry Jackson died, but the photo is legitimate news. It shows his last moments and is not degrading. Stop protecting me from what YOU think I shouldn't see. If it makes you uncomfortable then don't look at it. It reminds me of how we sanitized the Iraq war. There are people out there that don't understand the carnage of war and the huge amount of American blood spilled in Iraq because we make it nice and clean. Maybe if some people see their idol in this way they will think twice before abusing prescription drugs if that is what ends up being the cause of death. One of the major functions of mass media is to warn the public of dangers and thell the truth.

It's the same picture ET has been showing all week and no one said a thing, why all the outrage now?

I just came across the story about the cover "tribute"and I have to say. No matter if he was a public figure he was still and human being with flaws and failings. No one is perfect and that is what makes us human. It is a sad time for his family and close friends and to have this lasting memorial picture plastered for all the world to see shows just how little human life is valued. 500,000 dollars or 30 pieces of silver(not comparing MJ to jESUS either). But a betrayal of common decency for this man or anyone going to his death under any circumstances is a private thing no matter how public some people want to make it. But just remember whoever took this pic, karma will get you in end also. So enjoy your blood money and the cold comfort it gives you. God have mercy on your soul, you'll need it. OK

To Shannen-Ashlea, You hope the Jackson family says something to stop images like this? The Jackson family never said a word to stop this crazy rollercoaster ride this poor man was on, so his father abused him? Why did the Jackson family, his mother of all people NOT say anything at the time, why not stop it when it was happening? The Jackson family has no right to speak now, it is a little bit too late, the man is dead. They did not speak on his behalf when he was alive, what good will it be to MJ for this family to speak now?

Thats a stupid image to put on a magazine cover! Me and my friends noticed it this morning and it was to much. Show some respect towards him! He had a bad life from abuse from his fatrther, being accused of child abuse and sexual abuse etc. I hope the Jackson family say something to stop images like this leeking onto the web and papers!
