Austin, Tex., resident Laurel Kagay was just minding her own business and watching The Bachelorette Monday. Then suddenly, her name was mentioned.
In a hilariously staged return, ousted suitor Jake Pavelka came back to tell Jillian Harris that Wes Hayden, a remaining contender, had a girlfriend.
Her name is Laurel, Jake told Jillian and millions of viewers. Wes denied he is dating her. Jake ratted him out anyway. Laurel Kagay sat in shock at home.
“I was like, ‘What?’” Laurel told People in an interview today. “There was this pause before he said my name - and then he said it quite a few times.”
Laurel Kagay, owner of Peach Body Boutique in Austin, would like to clear the air on this topic, which has dominated the contrived Bachelorette for weeks.
She dated Wes Hayden for three years, but they are broken up, and have been for quite a while now. The two became strictly friends a year ago, she said.
“I’m absolutely not with Wes, nor would I be with Wes if he were going on a show to be with another girl,” she says. “That’s absolutely crazy.”
So how did Jake Pavelka get things mixed up?
“I think he was paid by the producers to come on the show and confront Wes definitely upset about not being on the show anymore,” Laurel theorized.
Laurel Kagay insists that she and Wes Hayden - who has caught considerable flak for romancing Jillian Harris while supposedly dating Laurel - are not an item.
“And I think Wes did say something about his ex-girlfriend. Maybe he said he still cares about me or whatever. Maybe Jake blew that into something else.”
However, Laurel Kagay admits, “We are really good friends and we do go out to lunch together, so I could see how people could think we’re together.”
Oddly enough, Laurel is also linked to another famous name in The Bachelor franchise - Brad Womack, the Texan who chose no one on his season finale.
Laurel Kagay has also dated Collin Evans, who was briefly a contender on The Bachelorette’s third season with Jen Schefft. Sounds like she has a type!
As for Wes Hayden, who The Bachelorette has presented as the ultimate bad boy, Laurel says, “They have not shown Wes’ real personality at all. He’s so funny. When we were together, we were always laughing and having fun."
"I never worried about him cheating on me.”
“She seems to have fun and has a good personality,” Laurel says of Jillian Harris, “and he’s really fun and funny. Too bad all this craziness had to go down.”

I'm glad to see something of a positive nature be written about Wes. The show definitely makes him out to be a loser...but it's all scripted and edited,so who knows what he's really like. If someone recorded every word you said for a month or so,and then took certain words from a bunch of conversations and pieced them together through editing...any one of us could be made to look like a loser.

Whatever Laurel,, I think your boyfriend Wes and you both thought this up for him to be on TV for a big plug of his singing,,,which his singing stinks, just like he does

Laurel probably encouraged Wes to go on the Bachelor, given that she had dated two... so the whole thing was probably her idea.
They are probably both lying.

I think Laurel is covering ofr him and you can listen to what he's telling the guys at the last ceremony and what he says in the car......he was the biggest a-hole on TV and all country fans should stay away from his CD and teach him a lesson.

Hope you both realize that his music career is in the toilet. Not a smart move to be so cavaliere about having a girlfriend and leading Jillian on to a large female audience... which my guess would be is exactly who he is marketing in his music career. I am sure the release will be delayed and can't wait to see the CD fizzle! What a jerk. And you are no better.

After tonight I think that Jillian sees the true Wes. SHALLOW!!! How could this further his career. I love country music and I would never buy his CD. I think any one who buys his CD doesn't do country music justice.
Country fans should boycott his music.

After watching the show that just aired, I'm so ashamed for being a country music fan if this kind of behavior (Wes) is rewarded. If his band sticks with him, they are just as bad as him. I also hope that Wes' family feels bad for actually making him look so innocent to Jillian at the dinner table.
If Wes was trying to become an actor, then I would understand his motive but I still wouldn't approve. True Country singers believe in their music enough to not have to go to such horrible lengths to become successful. ~Prima

I agree with everyone here. He is such a loser. Girlfriend or no girlfriend the comments alone he has made whether or not they have picked only his bad comments are that he did say them! straight from the horses mouth that he comes #1 and he is there for his career and then on tonights show he said to the guys he will be having sex later! Come on? And of course he pretty much confirmed his "acting" when he was in the limo. I wouldn't download his no talent band for free! I went to his myspace and left him a message. Hope he gets many more. What a loser! I feel sorry for his family, I bet they are really, really proud!

You know you're going to read this Wes. You just shot your career to hell. Who is your target audience for that crap you call music?... women who love country music. Those same women relate to the music, which is usually written about heart break induced by some sort of idiot. Except you just made yourself that idiot.
What manager thought it would be a good idea for you to go on national television to announce what an asshat you are? Congratulations! As an avid country fan, supporter or local music, and frequent Austin traveler- You succeeded- I now who you are. But it back fired. I WILL NEVER EVER buy or support your music. You have to give respect to recieve. Go pump gas.
