OMG, Sarah Palin is out of her mind.
Look, we're fine with the Alaskan Governor sharing her political views, even if we don't agree with them; and we'd never blame her for defending her family against actual, unfair attacks.
But her current feud with David Letterman, which may have been initially based on a misunderstanding that Letterman calmly cleared up this week, has turned into nothing but a defamatory attack against a long-time, respected talk show host.
We'll even give Palin and husband Todd the benefit of the doubt. We'll believe they were under the original impression that Letterman made a joke about Alex Rodriguez and Eliot Spitzer having sex with their 14-year old daughter, Willow.
But the facts are these:
- Bristol Palin is 18 years old and recently gave birth;
- Sarah Palin says anyone that believes Letterman was referring to Bristol, as opposed to Willow, is "naive."
- Addressing the Palin's criticism on his program, Letterman stated: "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl... Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No."
What else is there to say? It was a misunderstanding, Letterman admitted that the jokes were questionable and that he was going for a "cheap laugh." But seriously, people, he's a comedian. He makes a living mocking those in the news.
Yet the Palins wouldn't let it die, ratcheting up their critique by actually implying that Letterman was a pedophile and/or rapist. A family spokesperson said:
"It would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."
On The Today Show this morning, Matt Laurer grilled Palin over the meaning of that statement.
"Are you suggesting David Letterman can't be trusted around a 14 year-old?" Lauer asked.
"Take it the way you want to take it," Palin said, copping out and not even attempting to explain herself.
"But is that [comment] also not in bad taste?" Lauer pressed.
"No, it's not," said Palin.
Really, Governor? It's not at all in bad taste to say that you don't trust Letterman around your daughter? At least Dave freely admitted his jokes may have crossed a line.
With all due respect to Sarah Palin supporters, please answer these questions:
- Do you believe David Letterman was making jokes about the Governor's 14-year old daughter?
- If so, why? On what are you basing that?
- If you believe Letterman was referring to Bristol Palin, does he really deserve to be called out in such a manner?
Bristol is 18, she did get pregnant, he's a late-night comic. Do you think Dave (and Jay Leno, and Conan O'Brien) didn't make jokes about Jamie Lynn Spears?
Moreover, the Palins PUT THEIR DAUGHTER ON THE COVER OF PEOPLE MAGAZINE! Do they really have a right to complain about her as talk show fodder when the family plastered her face all over the leading supermarket tabloid?

How desperate is the RNC for even allowing Palin to continue her so-called "run" for a presidency of the country?? They have taken another idiot, in the realm of George W, and actually tried to make her a viable candidate for the leadership of an entire nation!! Didn't they learn anything from the disastrous 8 years of HIS presidency? The GOP needs to get an intelligent, rational, clear thinking person who leaves the church the HELL out of Washington, believes in letting women have a choice what happens with their own bodies, doesn't slaughter innocent animals in the name of "sport", and who will actually work for the good of the citizens and the country, and not just for the advancement of her own future in the world of big money and fame. Sarah needs to go away, and stay away. Anyone who brags about her lowly achievements on the basketball team or as a "beauty contestant" in Wasilla, Alaska for God's sake, all these years later, obviously has a very unrealistic idea of just what matters in life. I hope the press will stop paying attention to her very soon.

Any person with half a brain could easily figure this out. Letterman's writers weren't on the same page. One makes a crack about Palin's daughter being at the game, another assumes it was the older daughter, a joke is made, put on the cards and read by David. Bingo. An opportunity for Sarah Palin to blow the whole thing out of proportion to make David out to be a sick pervert while focusing attention on her poor, ever-picked-on-by-the-media family. Yet another chance to appear as the wilted bloom. Boo hoo.
Was the joke in poor taste? Sure. Should David review the material before the show? Sure. Is Sarah Palin craving attention? Absolutely. Go away, Palin. Your fifteen minutes have been up for quite some time.

I admit Letterman is way past his prime and should retire soon, and the joke was in poor taste (even if it is about her older daughter, like he said).
But Palin saying Letterman can't be trusted around her 14-yr old daughter is in poor taste and makes her no better than him. She's insinuating Letterman will have sex with her? C'mon! She sounds like such a fool. How does she get elected by Alaskans.

Tons of jokes have been made about her pregnant daughter , SHE is making this about her fourteen year old. But really, this is about Sarah and the slutty flight attendant getup joke. This was never about any of her daughters, it never is. This is just another example of how she exploits her family to appear Family Values Oriented and uses her family to promote her image.
That 14 year old daughter was not even at the game with her. Bill Maher, John Stewart and Stephen Colbert are going to have a FIELD day skewering her this week for this. Uh oh, all older men... better call The View!

It was evident to me that she relished attacking David Letterman. This is what she does best. After the election it was the "liberal media" that did injustice to her and her family. So why does she parade her children all the time?
Of course, David Letterman, made a reference to "Bristol" who was "knocked-up" by her boyfriend. After the birth of
Bristol's baby she then has her out there in the meadia as a
spokesperson who is now preaching abstinence. This woman is worse than "George W".

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill! How embarrassing for Willow to have her Mom go around saying to the world she practically got statutory raped by a pedophile comedian!!! What magazine cover are Todd & Sarah planning to put Willow on?
This story has turned against Palin, because no one believes Letterman was joking about crimes on a minor. The only dot-connecting going on here is in Palin's opportunistic mind.
I find it far more serious to give hate speeches, incite violence and imply that a presidential candidate is a terrorist.
And it's hypocritical to crow about this while publicly attacking and insulting the 18-year-old father of Bristol's baby. How is it OK to attack Levi, but when it comes to vague jokes about Palin it's hands off. What phony outrage!
Next time you are tempted to blow up an ant with a stick of dynamite just to stay relevant Sarah, know that America is getting sick of you playing the victim card. You've over-played your hand and are TOO obviously transparent.

Your argument boils down to: the facts don't matter. You may see that as intelligent, I find it intellectually bankrupt.
I don't presume to speak for the Palins. I got it. They took his words and his brand of humor, and threw it right back at him. It was a joke. It obviously went over your head. I hope you don't presume to speak for an entire nation.
Letterman is responsible for what comes out of his mouth. I doubt that he thought that he was talking about a 14 year old. At best, his writers are incompetent. He followed this up with a snarky, smart-ass denial. No explanation of how it happened and no apology.
"this was 100% perpetuated by Palin herself" By going to NY for some charity fundraisers and taking her daughter to a ball game?

It's obvious he wouldn't intentionally make a joke about stat rape on a network TV show. Sure, they screwed up in the Pants office and on CBS, but for neocons and Palin to take it this far is a sad indictment not only of their current position, but the 24 hour news cycle.

You are totally fascinated with this woman. Admit your attraction to Gov. Palin. I would, she is a total babe. Yet you sit in your ivory tower trying to convince the world that she is something less. Let's examine your family, any warts? Probably. I don't think you could pass the smell test you expect her to pass.
