Robert was told to promote the idea that he was single and looking. He did not feel comfortable about lying and he could not hide his feelings so the PR people came up with the idea of him saying that nobody wanted to commit to him---poor guy scheme and make him a sympathetic figure. That left him free to not have to be dating.
From the research I've done, reviewing interviews and clips compiled in videos about them (not taken from the movie)---they fell in "love/infatuation" during the movie. Robert was taken off guard as he knew she had a boyfriend so was just friendly to Kristen. After they did the deleted scene fantasy where he bites her in biology and feels her up and the extra kissing scenes--it became hard for him to resist her charms. He started pursuing her big time. The studio asked them to stop looking googly eyed at each other until the movie came out. They sent Rob on the road alone..he became really run down and sad. The gossip rags made up all kinds of crap about him SINCE THERE WAS nothing to really truthfully write about him. If exercised restraint and he did not jump on Kristen....he sure as hell would not jump on some slut in a bar one night.
After the filming stopped, they did not see each other until Comic Con in San Diego and then they realized that they still had a thing. He has stated that he was unsure if it was real or just part of "being in this strange little world for five months making the movie" saying to himself daily that this girl is all you need. He is a method actor and very analytical and sensitive. He stated in interviews the idea that Edward was in purgatory--neither dead or alive.
He has talked a lot about the soul aspect too and redemption. He became in some ways more spiritual during the movie it seems by constantly talking about the sexuality/soul aspect of the character Edward. If you have been raised to believe that you wait until marriage to have sex...but you desire someone so badly and really like them---the only thing he could do was stay away from her.
Watch the MVA of 2008 and see how they interact. Robert said in Twilight interviews about the scene when his character jumps out the window in the bedroom to go up the tree with Bella ...it got too intimate so Edward tried to make it fun---that is what he would do in real life===he is not experienced with females. T
hen, because the adoration and love gleams were so evident to all, they were told not to do interviews together and kept apart. He also said he was intimidated by her, which is why Catherine Hardwicke says in the director's cut comments with Kristen and Robert-- about Robert not having follow through--he had a crush but did not pursue Kristen after the film. Too uncertain of himself.
At Comic Con the director also mentioned how Robert fell off the bed during the audition---too aroused. Nikki Reed, Rob, Kristen and Rochelle did an interview where it is discussed again---the incredible attraction they have and Robs inability to hide his sexual thoughts. That is because he is not a player and is not having it.
Then they did the Vanity Fair shoot (really ridiculous set up shots to make him have to be intimately close to her)---watch the whole thing) which helped him to get used to being near Kristen.
This sweet guy has been raised with religious convictions.. and because he only started to look manly recently and is shy and quirky---did not have girls THAT HE KNEW WELL chase him. He was not buff with six packs (hung up on body) and had no ego. He also is a devout Catholic. The reason he did not follow through with Kristen is that Michale HER FRIEND is a friend of the director and Rob was 21 and she was 17---they were told to stay apart--- BUT MOSTLY because he was not ready for a serious relationship...and how do you tell a girl ---I don't screw around and please don't tell anyone that I'm old fashioned. Kristen has worked with the most far left in Hollywood. They don't dig celibacy, marriage, morals and true love.
If the word gets out....his parts and career will be over. He had to be shown as a sweet available guy for the teeny boppers.
The cast has been very protective of these two as they know Rob is a sweetie. No scandalous pics have leaked out because there are no pics of them--making out on set or in bed together. The ones that are out there are obvious photo shopped ones. BTW, creating false photos of someone to ruin their rep is actionable in a court of law..
That is why Kristen became so forlorn, nervous and twitchy the more she was around him. She wanted this guy BIG TIME and he was nothing but gentlemanly during and after. He could be sexy IF part of the scene.
He was being so chased in public that he became a recluse. He did everything he could to SHOW he was not Edward by his mannerisms, speech and look. That is why he looked so bad at times and also was just exhausted from travel. He knew that Kristen cared for him and was able to let himself go and fall for her.
They started as admirers of each other professionally, grew to like one another as friends and then as she started looking older and sexier---started being aware of each other. Look at the Twilight Empire photo shoot...it started around then that they realized they had started to fall in love --not just a crush or good buddies.
Then he went on the road promoting the movie and realized how much he missed her (he spoke about that too--how it's good to be away from someone you love in Japan interview) and it was not just a thing or puppy love. He introduced her to his family at his Vancouver birthday party --may be in the UK too. His sisters came over with his parents --on Ellen's show.
Rob liked her before he met her just from her work in movies. He stated he wanted to do the movie due to her. He started saying in interviews that "he dreamed of Kristen, could imagine proposing to her and could fall in love with her" when Ryan Seacrest asked him on the radio live ONLY after the premiere and the box office success. He admitted to proposing to her and then they set up this thing that he does it to everyone...NOT TRUE...he proposed to Kristen because he wanted to have sex with her and was/is in love...he believes you can't have sex without marriage--strange as that is for most of us to believe. I am married to a Catholic...they start the process of teaching morals early in life.
Finally, when he started not being able to handle the pressure and attention, the studio/producers allowed them to tour together and go to Europe, Mexico and Japan as they both do better together and are funnier. They shine and their love shows. He is weak on the outside but strong inside, she is strong on the outside and weak inside. They complete each other.
Kristen finally broke it off with her friend Michael (or they told Summit they would not pretend any longer since they made gobs of money with the movie for them) and is hoping that Rob is or will be serious about her--step up and grow up. She wants to get him before someone else does. He gave her a guitar for her birthday, not jewelry per her. They are squeezing the production of the sequels together fast as he is no longer boyish looking and because the next step for them is marriage ----not years of dating like most couples do while having a sexual relationship.
I think the only hang up may be for him getting involved with Kristen may be that she is not as educated as he is, does not behave like a nice Christian girl often, curses like a sailor, does not come off sweet unless speaking about him and may not be as pure as he is.
The best thing we can do is support every movie he is in so that they make him a successful, busy, happy guy. Hollywood will try to tear this beautiful sweet guy down VERY SOON as they are essentially jealous of his goodness, success and appeal.
His private business and sex life has been speculated about too much. Robert has been more than generous with his time and opinions in interviews and autograph signings.

ugh! srry i couldnt get to the computer ive ben bsy. everybodys ben taking the sides of rob but nobody realizes what kind of pressure you're putting kris under. you guys have to realize she has regular girl problems even though she is a movie star. if you were in her shoes than i'm sure the pressure of everybody trying to run your life than i'm sure you would just say forget it and cuss out three quarters.(or something around those lines.) rob and kris do make a cute couple but it's her choice not ours. she has enough pressure already trying to make two or three more movies.

Unexpected fame and attention destroys most people. They become drug or booze heads, lose their friends, change, become conceited or turn into assxxxxx. Robert Pattinson due to his family, friends and faith has conducted himself admirably - with humor and grace under constant attention. His intelligence and talent is obvious and his principles and solid grounding are evident in his interviews and candid videos. Robert Pattinson is just a normal, sweet and open "jolly good fellow". He is genuine and not sullied by the slime of LA and the fakes in Hollywood. Hopefully, he can keep his friends close to watch his back. Just liked the press leaked bad pics and stories to ruin him, they will try to destroy him out of jealousy and plain mean-spiritedness.
This guy goes nowhere and has no privacy. Everything you read is 99% false. Unless he says it, don't believe it. Do your research first. He is not a player or a nasty guy.
Robert Pattinson's talent, his handling of sudden fame, kindness towards the public and sweetness illustrates he is a fine young man. Robert is a really decent, down to earth and lovely soul. The world needs our young people to have good role models instead of the punks, druggies, sluts, slime, rappers and gang members that Hollyweird pushes at them NON STOP as worthy of looking up to and copying.
The Twi-cast hopefully will remember how potentially influential they are and will watch the f-bombs, drinking and smoking publicly since their fan base are largely teenie boppers, romantic young women and moms.

Taylor- I agree---I write too much. Regarding your question about Kristen not kissing him...I think that Kristen did not want to share them kissing with the world, she wants to have some privacy, she may have been told to keep it for New Moon since they want to peak interest and the producers are worried about teenage girls losing interest if they know he is with her. I think she resents the fans and public attention on her guy BIG TIME. She does not want to share him or that some nicer and prettier girl gets a shot at him.
To her credit, Kristen cared about him when he was not rich and famous. She did not want to be responsible for him not having a chance to be a "heart-throb" and for the offers to come in by staking her dibs on him right now.
Robert also stated that he needs more time when asked if he had a crush on her in an interview as they had been in this bubble during the filming. He may not be ready for a serious relationship and has said publicly that they are platonic friends....as all his girl---friends are. He is too smart to get married just so he can have sex--especially when he admitted early on in an interview (he is very open and not careful what he says as he is/was naive, immature and not a fake) that he "plays his own trumpet" to keep up sexual tension.
I think his family may not want him getting married to Kristen since she was smoking a bong in public, curses like a sailor, dresses like a streetwalker (see her Adventure Land premiere) and behaves like she has been around with her language, toughness and cursing. She may not be Catholic too.
I hope Kristen is sweeter than she comes off---she has been blessed with beauty and talent and yet (like Robert has said) she has an anger behind her quietness. Maybe she is just really insecure when he did not try to jump her bones or tell her to break up with her friend Michael.
Perhaps she was so crazy about Rob that it made her twitchy and weird in interviews. She started having trouble handling stress due to being frustrated and worried about him and the fans. Charm School 101 would do Kristen a world of good. Then they would be the perfect couple. To be fair, I think Kristen looks very lovely and wholesome in the pics from New Moon. That is the girl he knew and fell for her in Twilight, yet she continues to dress really trashy. She may have lost her tough and crass ways but I doubt it. She also blabbed in an interview that he got excited during the kiss scene. Talk about stupid big mouth.
Her handlers should tell her that you don't say sh*t and f*** during an interview like she has. You don't insult the fans and you don't make out like all the crazies in the world are out to get you and your guy if you want to have anyone come to your movies and keep from having to get a real job and go to college like most people have to. Show some grace and gratitude to the fans once in awhile.
She also does not sign autographs without an attitude on the occasion when asked WHICH IS HARDLY EVER compared to Robert. She comes off hostile and rude OFTEN.
Opposites do attract. The problem is they repel after the "dazzle" wears off.

Summit is worried about selling tickets so they want Robert to appear to be a player and hot sex crazed guy. GUESS WHAT, The people who bought the tickets are old-fashioned, romantic and many are people of faith who actually ponder redemption, the after-life and the concepts of abstinence, souls and true love. They got to know Rob by his interviews and charm at Comic Con. They fell in love with this sweet, silly, funny, shy and modest DECENT young man. HE IS SEXY because he is so beautiful --INSIDE and out.
Our kids have been sexed up enough by the liberals in this country. The result is more teenage pregnancies, more abortions, more STD's and AIDS, more girls with their self-esteem shattered and future plans disrupted from having sex with virtual strangers. More teenager's were celibate in the 50's & 60's when THEY WERE expected to be. Now 12 year old kids give b.j. just for sport to their "buddies' and "hook up". ENOUGH!!!
We need to go back to the morals and values that made America strong instead of the embracing of the liberal mantra of anything goes. It is destroying our families and youth. Taylor-answer to your question above: I am a mom of teenagers that has worked hard to raise moral and nice kids. My teens have not had sex and do not do drugs or drink....yet. I am a Christian and I have been married for 20 years to a Catholic.
I appreciate that Rob Pattinson is trying to observe his religious convictions. I have seen how open and sweet he is in interviews and kind to the fans he has been. Search on YouTube and discover how funny this unique and talented guy is. I don't want to see him destroyed by the lies and the sudden fame or to become a recluse due to the crazy fans. Look for interviews of Rob from 2007 and the start of Twilight----he is what he seems...sweet and not the typical star...very refreshing and endearing.
I am not a Twi-fan or a Twi mom. I am a fan of Robert. I saw the movie on DVD in March for the first time and I am reading the books now. My daughter and her friends liked it, so I was curious. He carried the movie and promoted it the most and was a key contributor to its success.
I was alarmed at how disheveled Rob appeared and exhausted and became interested in his "back story". I was pleased to find out that he is not a player, is celibate (or trying to be--see movie.ie interview) and that his biggest vices are insecurity,cursing, drinking,smoking and being too honest.
I would like America to return to its traditional moral founding. I am NOT a religious zealot but I see what is happening to our society and our kids thanks to far left indoctrination in our tax payer funded schools and through the left wing media. THEY HAVE DESTROYED AMERICA and soon we will be just like Europe with low marriage rates, low birth rates, weirdos on every corner and pot for sale in the local drug store. My husband is from Holland. IT IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY.
When we expect and teach our kids to behave decently, dress nicely, not curse, be sincere and mannerly IT IS GOOD FOR OUR SOCIETY. Think back to how it was here in the 50's and 60's.
When we accept the anything goes mentality of the liberal mantra....we end up with high STDs, AIDS, unwanted pregnancies, high abortion rates and kids that are shattered by getting involved with sex while still children themselves.
IT MAKES OUR JOB AS PARENTS HARDER when the media and Hollywood tout the bad behavior of Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Brittney, the rappers and the drug heads like Amy Winehouse, Jackson etc. as people worthy of worshiping.
I admire Rob Pattinson for trying to be a nice guy while surrounded by temptation. Bully for him and God bless him.

I don't think that they should be together just because what everyone else says. But the way that they look at each other off set i think that they already do and Kristen is to afraid to admit it for fear of ruining their relationship as friends. Being on scene and it being work is one thing but off the set. that another but they still look at each other with that same i cant live without you look. And trust me i know that look!!!!!

Hi everyone. I agree with RF about the two. I am 35yrs old and did my own research about Rob myself. I saw the Vanity Fair photo shoot which was really crazy. If I did not know, I would think those two were a couple. It should be there marriage album. I knew Rob from Harry Potter. I never really thought much about the tabloid and the gossips. I had a feeling they were together but kept it under raps as long as possible. I do know that he was interested in her before they even met. Thanks to RF's website sharing... I got more and confirmed a lot of beliefs about what is really happening. If they are together so be it. She has a lot of growing to do and I honestly think that he is good for her to make some changes that we would love to see her make. She is very down to earth which he loves greatly about her and their love of music. She acts a certain way maybe because of what she knows this business brings. I really do believe she is a sweetheart or else I dont think he would waste his time with her. There is something about her that drew him to her before they even met. NOthing has chnaged that. you cannot helop who you love. I ahve a partner 8years younger than I am and I look no more than 23yrs old. I heard that he flew from England to do the reading because Stephanie Meyers and/or Catherine had chosen Kristen to play Bella. She will grow and change as hse ages. Everyone goes through a phase and this is hers. Give her a break. AS Rf said she liked when he was not famous or a heart throb. Why shouldnt she grab him up if he wants her. Who are we to say that they should not be together...becuase she smokes "pot" etc. Did anyone ever think that Michael never made or poses challenges for her that would make her want to reassess her behavior in public when it comes to certain things? Maybe Robert is the person to do that or nake her alter some of her behaviors. He is different, a gentleman and she abviously knows he is celebate and she was/is still crazy about him. Who says she is going to continue to be the person we see her as today. In a couple of years she will be 21yrs... dont be surprised to see a different individual. I Know I write too much. But had to get it out there. Dont believe everything you read...as RF said research. Pick sense from non-sense. If she was still with Michael...she is not the type to go out on her man like that. She did break it off with Michael...as a long time boyfriend they are still friends. Did we really expect them to last thus long. As you get older one partner always grows leave the other...if they have the same goals they grow together and challenge each other. If she was satisfied with Mike...I dont think having those feelings (strong)for Rob would have been possible. Okay, Taylor, I know too much writing. But reflect on what Rf and I are saying. Peace!

Nicole: great post and thanks for sharing. I am concerned that just as quickly as Robert rose to fame, the creeps will try to destroy him. Right before the premier, many bad pics came out on him and the bong one too. There is a hard left element in Hollywood that snickers at the nice, sweet and religious. At Comic Con in San Diego the Mormon haters (Twilight author is a Mormon and can relate to Rob's beliefs) were out in full force. The comments in the audience were inappropriate and made us as Americans when viewed world-wide look pretty bad.
I wrote what I did about Kristen in the hopes that she will
1. be kind to Rob and not hurt him 2. grow up and become more refined and change for the better 3. Make it easier for Rob to stay true to his morals by not throwing herself at him 4. If they are both in love and believe in waiting to get intimate, say it. Our youth need to hear a positive message and if they believe in it....don't be ashamed of it...
Having an abortion, unexpected or unwanted baby, AIDS, or STDs is far more shameful. Having no principles or moral compass is far more damaging in the long run.
Imagine a world where only adults who are in love and married have sex. How would that change the disease, abortion and divorce rates?
Nicole, I hope he stays nice and that Kristen gets nicer from being around her. I hope he meets Taylor Swift...a girl more like him. He said that Kristen is strong and tough. She is the weak one...and her weakness could negatively influence him. That would be a real shame as has such potential as an actor and is a genuine nice guy.

Rob is not going to marry you or sneak in your window...SO....concentrate on school, improving yourself and looking for a real-life Edward in your school or neighborhood.....geesh back off the poor guy.
Rob won't get acting jobs if it becomes too much of a hassle for him to be on movie sets. He won't do interviews if too dangerous to come to the studios and shows. He has already declined many. Rob has been locked down too because he is too open and candid.
He will be passed over by directors and producers as too costly to protect and have security for if the fans keep acting so crazed towards him. If you want to see more of Robert in the future..like I sure as hell want to...leave him alone and respect his privacy.
