I think we need back up, she is human and cant be perfect. She decided to give her kids life and that was great; she shouldn't be put under scrutiny for everything she does. I dont believe these kids are being abused or neglected.

Any parent has done it, run up on that line. Spanking is not the end of the world folks, beating is. It kept me out of jail, getting into things that I souldn't have and I was reminded to RESPECT adults/peers.

Poor Kate. The press is doing more harm and injustice to her and her family,(including Jon).There is nothing wrong with giving a small spanking to a disobedient child. KATE DID NOT BEAT HER CHILD. One or two swats does not constitute a beating. TRUST ME I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE! The Gosselin Family deserves mor e respect than they are given. Haven't you figured out that in ALL tv shows/media there is a "good cop. bad cop" unfortunately Kate has been cast as the bad cop. If this is causing the demise of her marriage, SHAME ON THE PRESS AND THOSE THAT ENCOURAGE IT!

Kate, get a grip. So your man cheated on you. Leave him and please leave the kids behind as well. You would not be where you are if not for the kids. I think we are making Kate a monster by continuing to watch her show and making them "FAMOUS". It is obvious they cannot handle the pressure of being on camera and the kids are suffering.

I am disgusted reading the number of comments that are posted
stating that spanking is ok. Spanking IS NOT ok and is not
an effective form of discipline. Spanking is hitting and
a way for a parent to feel control when they are frustrated.
Shame on all of you for hitting your children! I find it
mind-boggling that there is support for a mother who stated
she will "severely punish" her children if they step foot
in her master bedroom! One can't even imagine what goes on behind Kate's closed doors when the cameras aren't rolling.
Intervention is needed and those sweet eight children need
to be listened to.

I agree a little spanking is ok now and then but when you are in the publis eye as much as this family is there are certain things you have to be really careful about. When your in the public eye you have to put on a front and unfortunatly that's what are society has come to. Did leah deserve it? Probably
Should you have done it in a dressing room or bathroom as opposed to on the street corner in front of the public eye? Yes
This incident just gives people more reason to dislike this women.

Spanking is not beating. There was a time my older brothers and sister aould get their butts whipped. Mostly because my mother lied about things they did or blamed them for something she did do. My father would take his belt to them. Somehow, one way or another he found out the truth and the whippings stopped. However it didn't stop him from a good crack in the behind when it was well deserved. fast forward a few years to about when I was 10ish, he was remarried and him and new wife took in foster children, now those kids were abused. not simply spanked. Sometimes a spanking is in order. Not with a belt, stick or other iten, a good hard open handed whack.

If a few more kids got a swat on the butts there may not be the problems with kids today. You can not reason with a child at that age.
Kate is a BITCH and a half, but this is not child abuse by any stretch of anyone’s imagination. I am not sticking up for Kate, she make me sick and always has by the way she treats Jon.
Run Jon run or better yet take a nice trip on your new OCC bike and enjoy yourself for once and then come back and get custody of your kids and find someone that is there for you, not a wanabe celebrity wife.

there is a time to spank your child but kate is taken advanadge of her children making money off of them, and for jon getting a bike good for him now they should treat the kids to something special people make mistakes they need to worry about the children not the spotlight.

The fact that Kate is being attacked for handing out a spanking is symbolic of EVERYTHIGN that's wrong with parents, children and society today. It was a swat on the bottom not a punch in the face. There is a drastic difference between abuse and discipline. Would it have been better than to allow her 5 year old to "run the show" and continue her poor behavior after already being told to stop? The people who have a problem with small little spankings and other such discipline are the same people who will sit there and cry when their children are 13 and out of control -- "I just don't know why they have no respect. They just don't listen to me." WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! It's a form of discipline that has been implimented since the beginning of time and was effective until liberal hippy idiots decided it was uncacceoptable and poor parenting. ironiclaly enough, this wave of "time out" parenting perfectly coincides with the rise in teenage drug use, pregnancy, violence in schools etc. Back in teh 50's there was no need for metal detectors in our high schools. It was a time when you were more afraid of being send home to your parents than being arrested. I know I would have preferred a night in a cell over being sent home to my dad. Sick and sad what this world is becomming. Think about it.

Oh, come on! These people are just waiting for Kate or Jon to make one TINY slip-up so they can ruin their lives for money. I do have to say, it was stupid to do it right in front of "The P People" (The kids' name for paparazzi), but hey, she's trying to juggle trouble with Jon, the TLC show, paparazzi, and EIGHT KIDS all at once! Besides, she didn't beat Leah to death so just give her a break!!! I bet most of you have been spanked or spanked someone before!!! Leave her alone! She's still a person you know. Get a grip!!!

THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN TO THEM IS THE SHOW GETS CANCELED AND THEY HAVE TO GO BACK TO BEING NORMAL PEOPLE, OTHERWISE DIVORCE IS FOR SURE IN THEIR FURTURE, JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT MONEY CAN DO, IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO THEM THAN EACH OTHER AND THEIR KIDS. BTW: Ain't isn't really a word. It became apart of the American Herritage Dictionary because ingornant people used it so much. People who actually picked up a dictionary needed to have the word put in it because they didn't understand the word ain't.
I bet Leah Gosselin dosen't use the word ain't and she is only 5...and spanked! I think she is just fine...

I think it's a sad day when a parent is ridiculed for trying to discipline their child. On a regular basis I see parents who are frustrated because their child is out of control. They are afraid of what people may say if they spank their child, sometimes that is the only way to get a point across.
As for the comments made about the couple and their relationship...they are both adults and chose to be in this situation....

Hmmmmmm.............seems most people agree with giving their kids a swift spank occasionally!!!! I know it didn't do me any harm whne I was a nipper. So how about we all agree it's okay to discipline your kids that way? And I don't mean beating the hell out of them everytime they overstep the mark.
As for The Gosselins......for goodness sake, give them a break.

mom4kids... is exactly what I'm taking about. You're so blind. Children are CHILDREN. They need to be guided and disciplined. They need to have boundaries and learn respect. I'm not saying that you can beat respect into someone, but when there is blatent definace and disobediance, what are you supposed to do? Ask them if they want to have a time out? LOL I'm not advocating ruling a home with an iron fist, or dictating everything they do, kids do need to be kids. But, they need to repsect and obey their parents too.
