I dont think so..I agree with spanking it should be used as a last resort for an example a child tries to do something that could hurt themselves yes a spanking is in order. This woman says her children come first apparently not that phone call came first..AFTER SPANKING HER SHE GOT UP AND WALKED AWAY WHICH,HELLO 8 KIDS YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR TEMPER BY NOW!She coulda took the whisle away for not listening and doing what she asked..AND LAST she should rethink on how she treats all of her babies because they are the ones that paid for that god aweful hair cut and 1 million dollar house and vacations..what a 2 face this woman is ! on the show she doesnt spank the kids why is that ? OH YEAH BECAUSE SHE KNOWS ITS WRONG,she puts them in time out..ugh i cant stand this woman, poor kids and whats really heartbreaking you have 2 8 year olds calming the 5 year old down shouldnt that have been the mothers job ? and im sorry and lost my temper?..ugh

You crybabies on here complaining about a spanking on here are the ones with horrible children. Authoritarian parents are what kids need not a friend to put on matching Britney Spears shirt on with and take them shopping people. I am a teacher and I see your brats EVERY DAY become worse and worse. Look at the generation differences people it does not take a genius to figure this out.

John, well said! I think children today are growing up without learning there are consequences for their actions. When I was a child (in the 80's), if we did something wrong, we were given a warning (as in this case) and if we did not behave, we were given a spanking. Now, if we were in public, we were told there would be a spanking later that night. And let me tell ya, the anticipation of what was to come was almost worse than the spanking itself. Either way, I never did what warranted the spanking again. Kate could've threatened the spanking for later that day and avoided all this drama. Still, she was only doing what a good parent would do. The child obviously doesn't listen.

Recently I reupholstered a chair and watched 3 days of All Gosselins, All the Time. I had seen the show before and thought the kids were darling. But watching the episodes all together made me believe that Kate Gosselin is a psycho. Blowing a whistle is NOT a beating crime. I remember early episodes where she totally ignores the kids beating on each other (too much energy to deal with it, she says). She hit her husband regularly. She belittled the children regularly. Even her "introduction" like "Joel is loveable but sneaky" is absolutely awful. Her meltdown at Disney World over spilled ice cream gives you a VERY good idea of how abusive this woman is. If she acts like a veritable heridan over spilled ice cream, how much worse is she if something truly serious happens? It's rather like she WANTED the dogs, but then threatens to get rid of them if they have an accident on the carpet. Her children can't even enjoy a walk through the forest because Kate has turned them into miniature clean freaks. Those kids are in serious trouble. Taking the whistle away is a reasonable response. Beating the child isn't. Those kids are in danger big time for both mental and now (as I'd started to suspect after watching 3 days of shows) for physical abuse. Anyone want to take bets that Maddy's personality changed because she became the brunt of Kate's fury? I hope PA child services gets moving on this for the children's sake.

You reupholstered a chair and watched 3 days of the show?? How quaint. Yeah, I am sure you are an expert on reality. Please explain what a "Beating crime" ,as you put it, is for a little kid? Kids don't usually break the law so we are not talking about crimes here and spanking a kid is waaaay different from beating a kid. You might want to stick to furniture and I suspect probably also Cats.

My opinion is that spanking is not an answer to a child's bad behavior ... there are other ways to discipline a small child (a 5yo is small). But I guess, in some cases, a good whip on the butt to end a dangerous behavior could be okay. But this wasn't the case here!
In this case, this was clearly child abuse. Leah was only PLAYING with a whistle outside the house. She was DISTURBING her diva witch mother who was on the phone. Kate could've just taken the whistle away instead. Don't you think?
OMG, I'm really considering changing my name (although nobody calls me Kate (thank god!)... it's Katie!!!)

One thing to keep in mind is that the average parent probably has no more than 2 kids and the Gosslins have 8 - please realize the level of stress. Plus, I wish the media would step aside. Let them live their life and if anything, offer positive help!!!!!! Quite frankly, if Kate did spank her child, at least she cares enough to make them mind. Think about how many destructive and unruly kids there are in schools these days. I can guarantee you that more than a few of them need a good lick every once in a while. I used to get spanked and I turned out just fine, if I do say so myself.

We are chock full or OUT OF CONTROL teenagers, whose parents never took the time to dicipline them, spanking, grounding, taking away their favorite video game. There is a HUGE difference between spanking and beating. I was spanked rarely but effectivly as a child and I had a HEALTHY respect for my parents rules...
