I don't have problem with spanking. I saw this episode not only did she spank Leah she wailed on her. Wich is inappropriate in my mind. I'm fan of let the punishment fit the crime I don't think the punishment fit the crime blowing whistle consitutes a spanking I think a time out would have surficed. Meanwhile Maddi still throws tantrums

As I think back to my parents slapping my bottom, It was most often to get my attention. We Americans come from a long line of Pilgrams and settlers. We do tend to do what is fast and easy. My mother would then "speak" to me for days about my embarrising behavior that caused her to need to "correct" me. We now know that there are better ways, but our heritage can get the better of us. I recall being applauded when I struck my diapered younger son for trying to play on the esqilator.

Hollywood Gossip and other people who tell news needs to get a life because everyone should spank there kid once in a while. This is no big deal. Just because Kate and Jon got a divorce does not mean both of them aren't doing bad parenting. There doing just fine. There doing what they need to do. Kids need to know when they shouldnt be doing something. All this stuff is just drama and gossip. Give them a break!

HOLY FUCK!! Leave them alone! So she spanked her kid, but if Kate let her kids run around like idiots she would be in the papers for being an unfit mother?? This makes no sense I think people should rememeber these are people who have real feelings and make mistakes (not saying that a spank is a mistake, sometimes its needed!!) People need to realize that Kate and Jon both do lots for there kids and the kids always seem happy and always taken care of and thats what matters!!!

Kate has 8 children and is raising them on her own.
She obviously loves her kids enough to care how they behave. a little disipline goes a long way.

im not usually one to comment but gosh it was a spanking. People need to just leave Kate alone. Shes a good mom alot better than some who only have one or two people really need to thinki about that!

oh god, seriously? i found out about this recently and me and my sister were laughing about it... sure, i feel bad for leah, i mean i HATED getting spanked when i was a kid, but really, most kids do get spanked, it's not like that means the parents doing the spanking are child abusers, they're just parents trying to discipline their kids. It's really not that big of a deal. Especially in Kate's case, she's got 8 kids, all of which are still very young, of course she's gonna give them a spanking from time to time. I have to admit it wasn't totally smart to do it in front of paparazzi, but still people are making way too big a deal of this. I was spanked all the time as a kid, and i know it wasn't because my parents were abusing me, they were just trying to teach me a lesson for being a little brat. As a person from Scandinavia I'm shocked by how almost everyone posting here thinks spanking children is such a fine, good thing. Your American culture uses violence and bodily degradation as a means to get a point across and that is not good for your people. In Sweden Ms. Gosselin would take the whistle away and be stern and if the daughter was still misbehaving she'd be sent indoors, not to play until she can obey. The daughter is as human as anyone and has a right to her body's integrity. To violate her body's integrity with a harsh physical action is an unfair and inexcusable way to communicate behavior rules. This child will, in turn, think that to hit others is how disapproval and anger is settled.

This is so stupid, the paparazzi should leave the Gosselins alone like are you kidding me. spanking your child is NOT abusing them b/c in most cases spanking your child(ren) is necessary && it's especially hard on Kate b/c she npw has to raise 8 children alone after a devostating seperation. Give her a break! I am pretty sure everyone has smacked or spanked a child when they were being bad && it's harmless but effective on how the child(ren) behave in the future. Kate is an excellent && inspirational woman, KEEP IT UP KATE! Don't let the press get to you b/c you ARE strong with or without Jon && i guarentee you will get through this!

Okay, i would not spank my child unless they did something bad really bad, but just because we see something different does not mean that we can bash on her saying that she is a bad mother. we all have different parenting styles. dads and moms. i am sure that you have a moment when you and your husband disagree on how to do something. disipline being one of them. i do noe really do the commenting thing but i think that people r looking a it wrong. no one put you on a magazine when they dont agree with how you dicipline your children. the only thing i can say is being in public you should not dicipline your children. wait till you get home. really. especially in the mess they somehow got into. please do not bash on kate gosselin for this.

That is what is wrong with today's society and children. Parents are afraid to spank their children because of police getting called. Their is absolutely nothing wrong with spanking a child when they do something they are not suppose to do. This is the way children learn! Kate Gosselin's attitude may stink and she may be a bitch but she certainly can spank her kids if need be without being criticized about it.
