Ok Kristen - apparently she wasn't listening. She was told to stop blowing the whistle, she didn't. As for the report that the Leah was screaming and crying - these kids scream and cry ALOT, so do alot of kids. There is nothing wrong with spanking a child, and I've seen alot of kids that could use a good spanking now and then. I work in child protection, and there is NO indication Kate did anything but be a parent. I feel sorry for her because anything and everything she does at this point, no matter how many other parents do the same thing, it's going to be picked apart. Rediculous.

Kate disiplined her child - and that makes news. Wow. I wonder where Jon was? Not off working, not taking care of his kids.... he's probably busy getting that custom motorcycle or in a bar somewhere.

I can't believe how things get put out of proportion, she spanked her child....I have two children I spank my kids...does that make me a bad parent?? No kids need discipline..as long as it's not a beating then its' fine.

Ok Jon Sable. Whatever. No one knows who you are, or cares who Kate did or didn't have sex with in college, high school or grade school, so get over yourself. It has nothing to do with who she is now or with disciplining her child. And evidently my friend - she no longer needs a man with money. She's got her own.

What troubles me is the lose of control on Kate's part that led to the spanking. She clearly lost it and instead of calming herself down and then dealing with it, she got physical. You should never touch your child in a frustrated, angry moment. Best to calm down and then deliver some type of discipline/action when you (the parent) are in control of yourself.

HOW DARE HER? Are you kidding me? She has EVERY right to discipline her kids but seeing as how she LOVES to have the cameras on 24/7 she should have NEVER done that on film. She is a pathetic excuse for a mom. I can NOT WAIT until Jon's divorce attys see the tape for this escapade. They will have a field day. Well shes doing a terrific job of making sure she will be all alone very shortly. Show will soon be over, Jon's OUT, kids are right behind and her lover oops sorry bodyguard will realize she is insane and leave right behind that. Karma KZILLA.

HOW MUCH WORK, time, commitment, and everything else we put into our kids for the nerve for you to have to EXPLAIN to an officer why you popped YOUR child!!! its one thing to abuse a child, three pops is a insult to her title as that girls mother..If thats the cae, half the kids in the WORLD are abused... wise up and if you didnr like her getting a pop, let her stand by YOU when youre on the phone and continue to blow a whistle in your ear when you repeatly ask her to stop!! c how u handle it....let me guess a TIMEout?? these will be the same kids punching you in your face when they get older:)

Ok,seriously? Is everyone making a huge deal out of an open hand spanking? That's completely crazy. She was not "beating" her child. This people is called a spanking, and a spanking with a bare hand at that. That is nonthing constituted for everyone to make a huge deal about. Where i come from, we were thankful to get an open hand spanking, instead of a belt. To all those people who are against spanking your children & think that "time outs" work well enough, I work in child custody cases & i can honestly say that with out structured dicispline, children do not listen, its statistically proven that children who live in homes that do not believe in spankings are more prone to be on a.d.d. medications, and they do worse in school. Thats statistics. Look it up. I back Kate 110%!!!

Why is anyone surprised that Kate is a hitter? She slaps Jon constantly on camera, she glares and threatens the children constantly, she grips there arms tightly, the woman has no self control whatsoever. She is scary abusive. I wish someone would rescue her children because they need a loving stable home, not this tension filled hell.

Did anyone notice that this looks like their OLD house. It seems that people are digging around for photos no matter what the time frame. It is spanking, it isn't the end of the world. And, how many times when you were a kid did your parents spank you then hold and comfort you...of course she went back to her coffee and walked away. You don't spank a child for misbehaving then read them a bedtime story. Plus, no one knows how many times she had asked the little one to stop blowing the whistle. As a parent, my guess...LOTS!

Joanne - she's a "hitter"? She spanked her child! It's perfectly legal and has been done for decades if not longer! I'm a child protection worker and she did nothing from what I've seen or read to warrent this kind of attention! A "hitter". Good one. And the little slaps I've seen her give to Jon are what a lot of people would call love taps, or joking around. You act like he was bruised and battered! And she 'glares and threatens and grips her childrens arms tightly'. I have to ask - do you have children? Oh - maybe you're the person I as behind at the store who's child was SO obnoxiously behaved and you though ignoring him was a good choice. Yeah - maybe she should have sat Leah down and had a one on one discussion with a 5 yr old about why she felt it necessary to continue blowing a whistle when she was told not to. Children need to respect their parents, and sometimes that comes from the parent having the authority. I bet next time Leah puts the whistle down the first time she's told.

SHE IS OBVIOUSLY DOING IT OUT OF ANGER!!!! If she was doing it out of discipline, she would not grab the girl right there (why is she talking on the phone anyway where her kids were playing???) and start beating her butt with her teeth clenched. And Jon needs to keep his pants zipped.

You have got to be kidding me!!! Kate is trying the best she can. Kids get spanked for doing something. We don't know what happened nor will we ever know. Personally people just need to leave them alone. The tabloids alone are going to ruin there marriage if it is already rocky. Leave them alone and let them deal with there problems. I love the show. The kids are adorable and at times out of control. When you have that many spanking is probley a great way to get things a little more bareable. And about the Maddy thing kids say STUPID stuff. When I was younger I would say everything I could because I didnt know any better. So people GET A LIFE!!

Chill out people; she didn't beat her, she just swatted her. I tell you what, when it comes to my five year old, he is sharply reprimanded when he interrupts a phone call misbehaving like that. I am so sick of the media trying to turn her into a monster and I'm sick and tired of Jon being all passive about everything, including his children and his home, and this was before they split up. It's not like she is out having fun with a little something on the side (No matter what you try and pin on her.) She works and takes care of the kids. Back off.

This is ridiculous. She's disciplining her child, big deal. As long as she is not abusing them. I was spanked when I was that age when I didn't behave. I agree with a lot of the comments on here. I think its totally unresponsible for parents to let their children act obnoxious in public. I see that more and more these days. The media have really gotten out of control with the Gosselin's. I saw this story on Entertainment Tonight yesterday and totally thought "Wow, this is getting really out of hand." Give them a break.

I'm surprised. Usually, Kate just ignores her kids when they misbehave. I guess Jon wasn't around to take her anger out on so she gave Leah a whopping. If you ask me, those kids are brats, so maybe a spanking a time or two would do them good.

Honestly people the bottom line is it's totally within the law and her right as a parent to disclipline her children as she please's as long as the child doesn't get injured....i'm sure the cop said the same thing to her but maybe broke her stones that he had to be called, and that she caused a scene. Obviously people hate her and are gonna attempt to get her locked up for child abuse....is she a bitch yes, and I persoanlly don't care for her. And you fucking news reporters need to find something else to yap about.....typical liberal media, unbelievable, lol

i am sure that for most of you when your child does something after you tell them not to do it you spank them, so dont judge this women for spanking her child, it is not like she balled up her fists and punched the kid. she spanked her. last i checked you were still allowed to spank your child.

OMG....It wasn't probably even more than 5 pops. Geez I got my ass whipped all the time and usually for good reason. Kate is human and nothing wrong with discipline at all. We have a really large family so noise and chaos is normal for me. But when one kid gets out of line then they get it.
