Bristol Palin, Hayden Panettiere Unite For Abstinence

You gotta love any event that brings Bristol Palin and Hayden Panettiere together ... even if many teenage males would have preferred a threesome to some forum extolling the virtues of abstinence and fighting teenage pregnancy.

The Heroes star, 19, and America's most famous unwed teen mom (sorry Jamie Lynn Spears), 18, attended the Candie's Foundation town hall meeting on teen pregnancy prevention for National Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day in NYC.

"It's a topic that's not talked about enough," Hayden said. "This is just a human thing. It's natural, it's what everyone does, but most people don't realize how serious things are until it directly impacts them and their lives."

"As a young female you go, 'Oh, it'll never happen to me, oh, it happens to people, but it'll never happen to me,' and then it does happen."

Hayden was not asked what type of birth control she uses. Come on, there's no way Milo Ventimiglia and Stephen Colletti didn't hit that.

Although Panettiere hadn't met Bristol Palin until the event, she was happy the unwed mother could serve as a fellow teenage ambassador for the Candie's Foundation, essentially becoming the new abstinence poster child.

"It's nice that she's come out to support this," Hayden said. "Teens get to look at her, and she can say, 'This happened to me.' This is all politics aside. She is just a girl out here saying, 'Look, it happened to me - it can happen to you.'"

Hayden stopped short of explicitly promoting abstinence, however she said she believes teenagers need to be more responsible when sexually active.

"There's a lot of different viewpoints on sex, and I'm not someone who will ever boo-hoo anything or say, 'This is not right,' or, 'This is wrong,'" she said.

"You're going to do what you're going to do, but at the end of the day, it's okay as long as you educate yourself, as long as you're safe, and smart."
