In a new interview, Todd Palin says the $150,000 spent on clothes and beauty services for his wife, Alaska Governor and vanquished Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin during the 2008 campaign was "out of our control."
"She never went to Saks, any of that stuff," he says in Men's Journal. "You come into a campaign late, you put all your trust into the team, you got people who are working on VP ops for a long time, and we're just focused on debate prep."
"I couldn't give a rat's [expletive] about clothes," Todd Palin continues. "Please. I mean these are my Sunday go-to-meeting jeans!"
Sarah and John McCain came under fire after it was revealed thousands of dollars were spent to dress her family - $75,062 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue and $4,902 at upscale men's store Atelier, etc.
The lavish shopping sprees contradicted Sarah's image as an average "hockey mom" - and even paled in comparison to relatively affordable Michelle Obama fashion.
Sarah Palin has said neither wanted nor asked for the clothes.
Todd says the Alaskan governor - who was routinely mocked on SNL while running for VP - was a seasoned politician before joining John McCain's ticket.
"You got to remember, it's not like they just plucked us off the fishing boat with scales still under our nails, you know?" says the father of Bristol Palin.
On a lighter note, during the campaign, Todd Palin, a champion snowmobile racer, had a blast chilling with his temporary Secret Service protection.
"They liked cruising around with me," he says, "we went to the Arctic Cat snowmachine factory and then drove up to North Dakota, went to a Penn State-Michigan football game, went to a NASCAR race. Rough duty, hanging out with me."

The Palins are the bumbling Keystone cops! BLAME IT ON THE REPUBLICANS, the handlers, those in charge of the campaign. That´s the first dud Todd´s answer.
The Palins will have to court the republicans, big and small to win the presidential nomination.
Just one stupid move after another! They might want to take their OWN advise and just STOP TALKING. Nothing sound ever comes of these interviews.
When he gave the interview was Todd wearing silk boxers and MANTAN? I guess the GOP didnt get instructions to BUY HIM MANTAN, they just thought they would surprise him with a tan in a bottle, right? No instructions for that, THEY forced the MANTAN and all the other things on them...uh huh!
