Gay Rights Group to Carrie Prejean: Let's Do Dinner!

by at . Comments

Open discussion and debate is at the heart of democracy.**

With that in mind, Equality California - a pro-LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) organization - has asked Carrie Prejean to join members of its community at an upcoming dinner.

Carrie Prejean wants people to judge her on her bikini body, not her gay marriage stance.

Geoff Kors, the executive director of Equality California, said: "Miss California probably doesn't realize how hurtful her statements are, especially to the LGBT youth... this is about something much bigger than the issue of marriage alone, and I have to believe that if she meets us, she will come to see our humanity."

Follow this article's jump to read Kors' letter to Prejean, and to let us know if you think she ought to accept the invitation.

In his letter to Miss California, Kors wrote:

As the executive director of EQCA, I'm writing to you in an effort to begin an open, honest dialogue. As such, I'd like to invite you to meet with me, LGBT students as well as a family headed by a same-sex couple so you may learn more about our families, our aspirations and our lives. I'm especially interest in introducing you to LGBT youth who can share with you their heartfelt stories about how the prejudice they face on a sometimes daily basis at school and in their local communities impacts them.

It is our hope that by meeting with us you'll come to see our humanity and one day support our unequivocal equality.

With your position as Miss California, you have an incredible opportunity to help bring people together and to make a difference. I hope you will seize that opportunity and accept this invitation.

Do you think Prejean should accept this invitation?

** However, there is no debating how much Perez Hilton sucks.

Perez and Kors....some class please! gosh...these LGBT types have no right to force their agenda on the majority! Go someplace else and rant! Leave this girl alone for Pete's sake!

I am a lesbian but i applaud this woman for the courage and conviction showed. She is definitely a role model for all LGBTs as state what you feel fearlessly and stick by your beliefs. Sadly, the likes of Perez Hilton have given a bad name to the community. He does not represent who we are and we have far more compassion and tolerance than the likes of Perez. I am ashamed at the way he has abused this poor girl! Perez - you spoiled a big opportunity and have pushed us back in our efforts! Shame on you!

oh boy!!!!!!the burning question of the century!!!!!should queers be married. NO!!!!!! any questions?

I think the problem with most gay rights groups and most liberals is that it is ok to have your own opnion as long as it is theirs. For the record i believe in gay marriage and i have no problem with her opinion even though i do not share it, and i applaude her for stating her opinion knowing that it was going to start controversy and that it would prevent her from winning the miss usa title.

Sorry that's "what are THEY", thanks.

Seems to me the gay community would understand that they are being pregidous against her, what are heterosexual phobic or something? She is not gay and proud of it, at least she not putting on a parade to rub her straightness in anyone’s face as that would be wrong!

With judges like Perez Hilton, the reputation of the Miss USA beauty pageant has been reduced to a farce. Carrie Prejean had every right to answer the way she did. The liberal left just doesn't like it because she stated her opposing views on live TV that reached an audience of millions. They want to stifle any opinion that conflicts with their own. Also, let's stop hammering her because of her spotty articulation. How would you like it if cameras were on you and judges staring in your face and the world is hanging on your every word? You'd be nervous as hell.

Jeez, let her have a freaking opinion! She's not stupid, she knows gays are human!! Why are some people so determined to shoot down someone who stood up for what she believes while under a huge amount of pressure?!

Carrie Prejean Quotes

I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be between a man and a woman.

Carrie Prejean

Marriage is good. There is something special about unions of husband and wife. Unless we bring men and women together, children will not have mothers and fathers.
