As for the issue concerning marriage and whether it is biblical, yes. Even where atheists are concerned, if the marriage is of man and womam, it is still correct in God's eyes, because "traditional marriage" is according to God's word, whether people believe in God or not. One of the beautiful characteristics of God is that He will hold out for the hope that as many as will accept Him will do so while in this life, therefore will allow even the most devout unbeliever to seek happiness, at least that is the hope that marriage accomplishes. However, civil unions are not conducive to Scripture. It fact, is goes against the sound teachings of the Bible (see 1 Timothy 1:10).

In order for homosexuals to be a legal couple, they can have 'civil unions' and 'civil partnerships.' There's no reason for homosexuals to fight for the word 'marriage' which is a sacrament and ritual rite. Many people have referred to the Bible as a reason for not believing in gay marriage. I just wanted to point out the following:
- In Exodus 21:7, it says you must sell your youngest daughter into slavery;
- In Exodus 35:2, it says anyone that works on the Sabbath should be put to death;
- In Leviticus 11:7, it says it's a sin to touch the skin of a dead pig, such as a football.
- The Bible says one must be burned for wearing clothing made from two different materials.
I assume everyone that cites the Bible in his/her gay marriage stance also follows these rules, right?

b) ... two heterosexual atheists could walk into a courtroom and be married by a judge without a word regarding religion ever uttered.

Gay marriage is not the major civil rights issue as many would like to make it to be. First why is only recently that it became a gay activist cause-celebre? Funny once the marriage tax penalty was removed, suddenly gays were being oppressed by not being able to marry. Was the oppression so bad that paying a few more in taxes made it too inconvenient to bother with? This all smacks of a highly orchestrated politics rather than an important rights issue. I do think there is a equal protection under the law issue that needs to be addressed but I do not think that the government needs to redefine marriage to satisfy this legal oversight. Marriage has been around for an awfully long time perhaps well beyond recorded history and I have never seen it referred to as gender optional. Why should we expect our government to be forced to change that in a historical eye blink because Perez Hilton thinks so?
Question, since booing seems to validate Mr. Hilton’s position, would there have been booing if she had answered it the other way? What if it was even louder? Would it still have cost her the title? I am not sure but there would have been booing. There is no question about that. That was an unfair polarizing question that he asked for his own political reason. People today seem to think that everything is about self gratification, and because it feels right, makes you happy, and is politically correct, that’s how it should be. People should get all the information they need to understand and see clearly why Christians have strong convictions about gay marriage. Faith is not a fairy tale that ignorant people believe in, It’s real and eye opening, and it’s terribly sad that people just don’t understand and are afraid of finding out that God is real and He is our father and just like a father He does have rules, for our own good; People should be more informed before they make statements about people of faith, and their convictions. I can't emphasize enough that The Good Book was left for us, so we understand what God wants for us, from us. It wasn't left as a reference book. No you cannot take everything literally, specially if you don't know what the passage is about and why it was written that way. God does teach us about being pure and holly, and yes as "crazy" as this sounds
there are people out there that follow his teachings and do wait until married to have sex. Now let's pretend atheists are right.First,wouldn't we as society want a more moral, pure society? Second, what if there is a God and the only way to get to heaven is accept Christ as your savior, and if you don't you'd spend eternity in hell, wouldn't you be at least curious what all of the Bible is about? I would. Take care and God bless you.

To Brandon - That's incorrect. Vermont was enforced by the State Legislature, not the court.
To Rebekah - How are you not just picking and choosing verses from the Bible that support your gay marriage stance? Do you take the Bible literally? It's a simple question.

Rebekah (and many others) - You're missing the larger point of the gay marriage issue: it's perfectly fine for you to be against it, based on the Bible.
But how does that relate to state laws? Not everyone is Christian, not everyone gets married in a church. What about a gay couple - or, heck a heterosexual couple - that simply has a civil ceremony inside a courtroom? This is all they are fighting for.

I have one question: Was everyone that's against gay marriage because the Bible says so also a virgin before he/she got married?
I'm honestly curious: if you have had sex before marriage, on what basis can you cite the Bible for being against gay marriage?
