Beauty Pageant Director Slams Carrie Prejean, Gay Marriage Stance

The gay marriage debate has found its way into the celebrity gossip world.

As previously reported and depicted, Miss USA judge Perez Hilton asked contestant Carrie Prejean for her views on the controversial topic. She replied:

Perez Hilton and Speidi

We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how I think it should be between a man and a woman.

Carrie Prejean doesn't believe in gay marriage. We don't believe she offered any reasonable explanation for this view.

Hilton, as you might expect, was aghast at the response.

So was Keith Lewis, the Executive Director of Miss California USA/Teen USA. He wrote the following to Hilton's website:

"As co-executive director of Miss CA USA and one of the leaders of the Miss CA family, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family."

Lewis neededn't have added the final few words. Religious beliefs have no place in politics. Period.

"It did cost me my crown," Prejean said on Monday's Billy Bush Show. "I wouldn't have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that's all I can do."

She added:

"It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would've wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything."

Well said. However, Carrie, it would help to explain WHY you possess such beliefs, wouldn't it?

Miss California has read and believed her Bible, and stood her ground at the right time.
Jesus did the same thing when he was questioned, he stood for the truth.
Thank you,Carrie, your a lovely girl and I hope to meet you in the kingdom of God someday.

She stood up for what she believed, she is the true winner in my eyes. The last time I checked this is still America we have the rite to state our opinion!

I am so proud of Carrie for being honest and expressing her views no matter what the backlash is. Good for you Carrie, you represent the majority of America. Glad she didn't jump on the bandwagon of supporting same-sex marriage just to win a crown. And if her answer did have anything to do with the results, SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! on the Miss America pageant association.

It's shameful that her answer was openly stated as a reason for her to not win..disgraceful!!! She just answered the question that was asked of her, she didn't distribute pamphlets!! That was a set up.

On one hand she is say " my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman." Then later she said my sister believe in same sex marriage. Get it right. All I would to say to her, you do not know what the furture whole for you. If your child told you he or she was gay, how would act? You need to watch a Prayers for Bobby.

I can't believe that so many "people" are so disrespectful of Carrie's opinion. She openly acknowledges that she respects the other side, but she has been attacked because she expressed her opinion. What did you want her to do? Lie? Be dishonest about what is in her heart? If so, I ask all you gay marriage advocates to come out on the most public venue possible and denounce gay marriage. That's equivilant to what you're asking her to do. Thanks Carrie for being "REAL" in a time when so many people are trying to follow..... even when they know that the reason for following is SUPERFICIAL.

I'm bummed that the Miss American Pageant had to pull politics into the mix. Extremely unfair move! Comes across to me as a bit of an agenda. It's to that it's come to this. We just wanted to enjoy a fun night with the kids. Thanks!

Religious beliefs is what I intended to write.

Hollywood Gossip looks very ignorant in that last sentence. "Well said. However, Carrie, it would help to explain WHY you possess such beliefs, wouldn't it?" It is obvious the way she was raised and her religious are what forums her opinions and I am proud to see her take a stand. God created marriage not man and God made it for a man and a woman. It really is not a difficult issue.
