I can't believe that so many "people" are so disrespectful of Carrie's opinion. She openly acknowledges that she respects the other side, but she has been attacked because she expressed her opinion. What did you want her to do? Lie? Be dishonest about what is in her heart? If so, I ask all you gay marriage advocates to come out on the most public venue possible and denounce gay marriage. That's equivilant to what you're asking her to do.
Thanks Carrie for being "REAL" in a time when so many people are trying to follow..... even when they know that the reason for following is SUPERFICIAL.

I'm bummed that the Miss American Pageant had to pull politics into the mix. Extremely unfair move! Comes across to me as a bit of an agenda. It's to that it's come to this. We just wanted to enjoy a fun night with the kids. Thanks!

Religious beliefs is what I intended to write.

Hollywood Gossip looks very ignorant in that last sentence.
"Well said. However, Carrie, it would help to explain WHY you possess such beliefs, wouldn't it?"
It is obvious the way she was raised and her religious are what forums her opinions and I am proud to see her take a stand. God created marriage not man and God made it for a man and a woman. It really is not a difficult issue.

So as I understand it in the US of Americans you have freedom of speech as long as you agree with whoever is asking the question? Hypocritical and really stupid. Perez, just because you have a certain belief it is not your right to tell everyone else what their beliefs should be. She never said that Gay marriage should not take place, she just gave a personal opinion. It's like her telling you that you must sleep with women and you telling her that she should as well. SHE doesn't have to do that and you don't either!

Way to go Miss California. You don't need the contest, you are a winner!

You are correct Diana, it was meant as an ignorant statement the same way her ignorant statement was heard by millions who watched the pageant. Oh so I see, I am not entitled to my opinion but she is *LOL*? So it's acceptable for her to spread her close minded religious beliefs on T.V but I am not entitled to call her white bread and religious, you truly are a hypocrit and amusing. She is a hypocrit and so are the rest of you who live in your glass "wholesome" little suburban homes. I am so sure that you all attend your churches every Sunday to cleanse yourselves of your sins after a long full Saturday night of partying or pertaking in many "unholy" activities. What two consenting adults do in their lives is NO concern of yours. I don't care what the bible says, I highly doubt you follow everything in the bible. You most likely only agree with the parts which you find suitable for your own life.
The only reason you are all so afraid of gay marriage is because you are insecure in yo

Carrie Prejean, I admire your honesty and beliefs. It shouldn't have beent taken against you. It was your belief. You were asked for your opinion.
I just can't shake the feeling that Perez Hilton wanted to use the airtime to air his own agenda. It would be sad if this was true.

Yes this is a free country. But do people forget that this country was founded on God. Yes you have the freedom to be gay. But a true marriage is a commitment between a man , woman, and God. God never intented for same sex marriage sorry, read the bible, you cant argue with God.

I applaud Miss CA for her response. As many people have said, she stood up for what she believed in, and that is what's most important. After all, it's an opinion question, and she should be allowed to express it.
Being against gay marriage does not at all mean that person is in a "white bread religious world." She was standing up for her personal beliefs - because it is, in fact, in the bible that homosexual unions of any form are forbidden. Saying that she's just fitting into the stereotypical high-minded white person is a prejudiced and frankly, an ignorant statement.
I have a feeling that there are a lot of people out there who disagree with gay marriage as well, but fear the social reprecussions of this society.
It's a hard subject to reconcile, and I don't know if anyone can come up with the "right" answers, but everyone should at least be entitled to their own opinion.

Say No to Gay Marriages. It just doesnt make sense. Its also one more reason for spread of HIV. Why cant ppl be normal enough and try to follow normal practices like man-woman marriage? More so, one man and one woman would be better.

This is the Miss USA pageant. USA has freedom of speech. Obviously, only when it is convenient or is in line with your own beliefs. Whether I agree with Miss Prejean or not, I fully support her right to say it. Mr. Lewis, why were the judges' questions not proofed or screened ahead of time? Your pageant put this wonderful young lady in a position she should not have to have been in. She answered with poise and integrity. And, MANY Americans agree with her. YOU, Mr. Lewis, let Mr. Hilton's H8 and agenda in, where it should not have been. Miss Prejean should be praised for her honesty and integrity, and should have won the crown.

Ms.Carrie Prejean is the true winner of this years Miss USA Beauty pageant. I also agree that Mr. Lewis should be removed as pageant director.

I applaud Carrie for her comments.
Why is it those against homosexuality are always wrong? Why is it a person is not allowed to express their opinions and beliefs if they go against the gay agenda?
Hilton and Lewis are free to express themselves, why can't Carrie. I am proud of her willingness to stand up for what she believes.

WAY TO GO, Miss California! I'm so glad you stuck to your beliefs and answered the question truthfully. In the eyes of so many of us, that makes you even more beautiful!!!! Shame on Perez Hilton for asking such a question and then using it against her because he disagrees with her opinion. The backlash should be on him!!!!

Perez,
You are one of the most inarticulate, bigoted, intolerant people I have ever seen or heard. Thank goodness for people like you who just can't control themselves and their obvious biases toward anyone who may have a different opinion than you. You show the rest of us clear thinking open minded people what your really all about which is to make the rest of us think exactly like you.(God forbid) Grow up and realize that the world is a better place because people can think for themselves and have their own opinions.

I am disgusted by the fact that a woman who was trying to represent the USA is so close minded. What right do any of you people have to tell someone who they can and cannot marry. No one is imposing their sexuality on you, you are all so wrapped up in your religion or lack thereof that you need to stick your noses in the goings on of everyone elses lives because of how utterly pathetic your own lives are. How does two men or two women marrying effect your own personal lives? Guess what IT DOESN'T! Get off your religious and hypocritical high horses and learn to mind your own damn business for a change. She was wrong and it cost her dearly, she could have simply stated that this country is made up of millions of people with various preferences and beliefs and even if she was brought up to believe marriage can only be shared between men & women she is atleast open to gay marriage because it does not directly effect her own personal life , but no she had to throw in that she opposes g

If understand she gave an answer consistent with the law of the land. Most states are of her opinion. I happen to be for gay rights and gay marriage, but that's me, that's my opinion, and also a lawful one. I am more affraid of those that say she should never have given this answer, or that she should have lied than people like her who give their opinion and are also tolerent of people that do not share their opinions.

i think it was amazing that Miss California actually stated her opinion and said what she truly believed. I think that it's ridiculous that she is being criticized for standing for what she believes in. Like many of the people on this site have commented, if Perez didnt want to get an answer he might not like, then he shouldn't have asked it. I still don't get why he was a judge in the first place, other than the fact that all he knows how to do is criticize people he doesn't like. Whatever, go Miss California, good for her for standing by her beliefs.

The question should never have been asked. If Hilton could not accept either answer, he should not have asked the question. Worse, still is Keith Lewis's response.
Good for Carrie for standing up for belief, even knowing that Hilton would not like the answer.
That takes courage

Perez Hiton had no right to critisize her over this! He asked for HER view and he got it. What she was doing was giving her opinion on gay marriage not getting up there and sying 'kill all gays' or something. people get so touchy over this subject. Even though I have different views I applaud her for saying what she thinks and standing up for what she thinks is right. But I don't think th question should have been allowed because unless she said she was for gay marriage people would not havebeen happy. This is why I don't like the Miss USA pageant, because the women are liek robots, they all have to put on fake smiles and be perfect. All this publicity is because Miss CA stepped out of her perfect frame and showed a personla opinion. Good for her!
